Just caught this the other night. It may be the best film of the summer. So what that the romance is predictable! It is warmly and fully played - all the main characters are rounded out nicely (although a few of the supporting roles are pretty cardboard).
One of the wonderful parts of this film is the way it does not shy away from portraying people in mourning. Since the mourning process is not the focus of the film, it is not dwelt on heavily, but we are allowed in to some very personal moments that reveal important depth to the loss experienced by Kate and her niece, as well as some of their growth in successfully dealing with their grief. Part of this process is (again predictably) their bonding to each other.
The predictability is not a draw-back to the film, because it is only predictable in the sense that it believably portrays what we know of ourselves as people.
Besides, we bought a ticket to a romantic comedy, and we expect it to deliver a fun love story, which it does very well !
