To Father Mayall and everyone else involved, thank you for all of your efforts in meeting and resolving this challenge to restore the Cathedral to its impressive glory. The Cathedral is one of the true landmarks for Chicago, with thousands of visitors each Saturday and Sunday coming from across the nation and world, usually about two-thirds of attendance being from elsewhere. We miss the Cathedral but will welcome it back with much greater appreciation when it is finished. This is but a blip on the radar for the future and we applaud the staff and the meticulous workers for their efforts, truly a mission for God.

Maybe if the Archdioces of Chicago didn't have to pay so many millions to buy-off the sins of the papist pedophile worshipors' priests they could afford to fix their roof.
Revoke the tax-emept status of the papists, after all, not only to their priests molest children, but, they use property and assets allowed under a 'tax-exempt' status for political purposes. Any time the church uses a phone, car, computer, pencil, pulpit, etc, etc, for political purposes they should NOT be allowed their tax-exempt status.
Politics is politics and non-exempt. Religion IS the opium of the masses and there's no credibility for the Catholic Mass any more. Why do you suppose their flocks are departing in the developed western world left right and center and that the church is focusing on Latin/South America, Africa and Asia? Only among the truly ignorant can Catholicism thrive. Whom else would prostolitize themselves to a scam led by a man who wears dresses, designer slippers and silly hats - who surrounds himself with opulent wealth while preaching do as I say, not as I do / not as I live?
The Inquisition.
Trying Martin Luther, Galileo, et al.
A flat world - where the sun revolves around the earth.
Men/priests who rape boys.
Popes who murder / are murdered by their peers [Borgias, John Paul, etc].
A church that conspires with P2 and the Sicilian Mafia.
Banco Ambrosiana / the Vatican Bank's countless frauds.
The Catholic Church is beyond contempt.
Take away their tax-exempt status NOW! Do the same for ALL organized religions that do anything other than overtly and solely religious practices.
Organized religion - ya got to hate 'em.
Shakespere was right, first the lawyers, but / and then the priests.

Turn the building into a homeless shetler. Have George move out of his palatial home in Lincoln Park, let him live in poverty, sell that property and feed the poor.
Catholics - hide your children and your assets.
The English in the 17th century were right to forbid the Catholics from being armed - they're dangerous enough without firearms.

"It is the religious service that matters, not the venue, said another worshiper, 32-year-old Raphael Frackiewicz."

Wonder how many bridezillas who have been put out by the renovation would agree with that statement.

Why use scaffolding? Let that PILLAR of the church Michael Pfleger hold up the cieling by himself -- it would be the only USEFUL thing he would ever do for the Catholic Church.

This would be a good assignment for Father Flegler. Keep him out of the spotlight and probably quiet him a bit.

Well, now we see you advocate killing priests and stealing property. Very rational.

Amazing how the KKK-wanna be's come out of their cracks in the floor at any mention of the Catholic Church. Never an acknowledgement of the good that the church has done with hospitals, orphanages, homeless shelters, food programs for the needy, schools, and assistance at the cost of their own lives in the poorest areas on earth. Perfect, no. Nothing is. But name any other entity that has done so much good. We are proud to be Catholics. Those of you who write such vitriolic comments can take solace in your lonely bigotry.

As long as they are rebuilding the ceiling, are they going to get Cardinal Cody's Coat of Arms out of there? That would be a silver lining in the cloud.

The Cathedral was renovated early in Cody's glorious reign, and the egomaniac put his mark front and center. It figures the renovation was botched, and major repairs are needed 40 years later on the corners he cut.

Cardinal Cody has been largely forgotten. The closer we come to completely forgetting him, the better.
