The speculation about the gun that I've read was that the farmer who found it had fired off the remaining bullets; insinuating that the gun might have been fired before he found it. The owner of the wrecked plane has also refused to let anyone near it since saying that closer examination of the wreckage in the context of that gun could ruin the public's perception of certain people.

My God!! Since when do we the public deserve to see photos of anybody's dead body! They've been laid to rest many years ago with much love, admiration, and sorrow. They're families have suffered enough in their loss. Anyway, why do we need to dig and dig for more info on the crash, their families were satisfied with the reason for the crash all those years ago, so what gives us the right to pry? We all respected them as human beings as well as performers...let's just sit down, shut up, and enjoy their memories in their music. Now that Bopper Jr. felt that he'd been pushed to take these measures to get the public to let this go about his father,...leave it alone,...let his family live their lives. Jr's. a great person with a big heart...God Bless him and his family!!
And let Bopper, Holly, and Valens rest in peace!

Josh, it's all "Tosh" forget the gun being fired rubbish, the only sure thing is that it was just a very tragic accident. God bless the victims.

Ive read that there is footage of the big bopper being taken from the grave and being checked for fail play it was filmed but only the big boppers son and family have footage only they can realese it the whole main purpose to bring the big bopper up was to finalise if there was any foul play regarding the gun found at the scene after..which the farmer fired to see if it was functional but why aint any footage been shown on tv as of yet of the tests and proof of no foul plain i sooner keep my eyes out waiting a fly on the wall documentary soon to come on tv explaining it all lets hope its soon as its driving me insane the images of the the big boppers dead body was meant to be in the same preserved state when buried in 1959 buddy holly richie valens the big bopper all brought there style to the table in diffrent ways very inspiring yet start of there career they all would have been more famous so many songs we sooner may never know what they would have produced unforuntaly they was called from god for other dutys but i thank them for there inspiration in my life :-)

Until I read about the son of Big Bopper going to sell his casket on Ebay I really never read much about the accident. I was 3 when it happened. Never did I hear about a gun being discovered/etc... Interesting. Like the music...who doesn't? But now my curiosity is aroused...nothing personal...accident? Maybe...reading on to hopefully settle another thought of thinking. What did happen? Really.

According to a book by John Goldrosen, Buddy Holly carried a gun inside of fake compartment in the suitcase in which he carried money, most likely cash payments for his performances. According to the book, even Dion of Dion adn the Belmonts was shocked when he found this out while on tour with Holly. When the plane crashed, the gun might have both popped out of the suitcase and gone off.

Oh give it a break. A dead body is nothing more than a person sleeping so, if the person above would like to see any pictures of bopper I say, more power to him. You people gasp over the littlest things for crying out loud. It's the same as viewing a body during the wake so, lighten up. Geez !!

Look, the boppers sick kid just wanted to see his dad. No more and no less. Forget that stupid gun theory. That was just the his excuses for digging him up. Why would anybody fire a gun and shoot the pilot or anyone else when your 4,000 feet in the air? Especially after the farmer admitted to finding the gun and fired the only shot in 1959. Look these four guys died of multiple fatal injury's. I wasn'tít there but I think the likely scenario is 3 of the biggest stars of the time got on a airplane because the bus had no heat and people were sick and tiered of playing hopscoth across the midwest. The pilot got a little star struck and the 3 singers convinced him that he was man to get them to their next ďgig.Ē Imagine your driving home in your car and itís dark out with no lights and heavy snow coming at your winsheld @ well over 100mph and your traveling @ God knows how fast? Iím pretty sure the pilot was having second thoughts while he was still on the runway. Itís called piolet error and bad wheather conditions.

The one other thing the sick kid did was sell the oldmans casket. He said he didnít have any use for it. Iím sure he made use of the money he got from selling it on ebay or wherever. He goes around impersonating his dad you know. Ever heard him sing? Iíll put it this way, heís lucky his old man had a hit song.

I have agreat site for you, it's huge but you better have a really good security system because lots of people hate death hags. I use to be one myself. It's dark and gruesome links, I still remember how I finally found my way and it was a search on old sparky that led to a link at the bottom. Dark and Gruesome is the place, you wouldn't believe the pics I seen of president kennedy (JF) in the morgue.I'm warning you the things you find there will stay with you always. I found I was depressed more often visiting some of these sites so I quit most of them. I still do dead man eating (last meals on death row) and find a death, lots of details about last days and he always takes a pic of the mail box for whatever reason. Those two sites are safe by the way and there are some pics.
No disrespect intended to the Big Bopper or any of his fans, I don't remember him and know nothing about this case.
