I was working at KHEY when Buddy, Richie, and the Big Bopper were killed. The owner of KHEY was A.V. Bamford. He was a major booking agent. The tour they were on was booked by Bamford and they were to all make an appearance at the El Paso Coliseum. One day Mr. Bamford called me into his office and typed with his two fingers the name of Holly, Valens, J.P. Richardson, Dion Dimucci, and The Crickets. What do you think of that package, he asked? Well they will be coming to El Paso soon. I was driving along Paisano by the coliseum listning to our station when the news came across. I had to park at the curve as I couldn't drive from the shock and tears.
