MAIEUTIC THEATRE WORKS (MTWorks) is pleased to announce their one-night only benefit event, UNDERWORLD: A Night with Broadway’s Understudies, hosted by improv comic Law Tarello (The Twenty-Fifth Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), under the musical direction of Matt Doebler (Wicked). UNDERWORLD will take place on Monday, May 19th (7:30pm) at The D-Lounge (101 East 15th Street, under the Daryl Roth Theatre).
Support the Arts with Entertainment and a Nightcap; all proceeds from UNDERWORLD go to funding MTWorks Season 08-09, including the production of Johnna Adams’ Sans Merci, directed by Cristina Alicea (June 12-29 at The Roy Arias Theatre Center).
The understudies performing include David Garry (Company, Sweeney Todd Tour), Carly Hughes (The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, The Twenty-Fifth Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Chelsea Krombach (Wicked), Lindsay Northen (Wicked), Jacqui Polk (Hairspray), Heather Spore (Wicked), Andrew Varela (Sunday in the Park with George), Katrina Yaukey (Company, Cabaret) and Catherine Walker (Mary Poppins).
Julie Griffith is the event producer. The production features stage direction by Elyzabeth Gorman and Martha Goode is the sound engineer. Artwork created by Lindsay Moore.

Maieutic Theatre Works (MTWorks) mission is to birth new plays that question norms and boundaries about our society, humanity, and individuality. This is done by supporting the development of emerging playwrights through The NewBorn Festival (an annual reading series), the establishment of an acting repertory, and the production of a season of plays comprised of all new work cultivated by the company. Upcoming productions include Johnna Adams’ Sans Merci directed by Cristina Alicea in June 2008. Past Seasons include: Cody Daigle’s Providence directed by Ian Crawford, The NewBorn Festival 08, David Stallings’ Arpeggio directed by Cristina Alicea, The NewBorn Festival 07 and the companies inaugural production, David Stallings’ Folie a Deux: Insanity in Pairs directed by Cristina Alicea.
