I will tell you my opinion. Without him there would probably be no Beatles, OK? But in the end, yes, they became bigger than Elvis.

what about George Martin, wasn't his influence just as big or even bigger than Lennon-McCartney????

Bigger? No, man! What songs did he write? He is a great persona in production, he did contribute to the Beatles phenomenon a great deal, but it's Brian the catalytic figure at Beatles' success. Forgive me one more time, if my English is badglish.

Without Brian Epstein OR Sir George Martin, The Beatles would have never gotten out of Liverpool. No record company wanted to have anything to do with Liverpool. It took the persistence and class of Brian Epstein to finally convince the 4th EMI record producer, George Martin (the other three rejected him) to take a chance to listen to their audition tape, which led to their subsequent live audition to finally getting a major record contract. Without George's expertise with sound/mixing in producing the Beatles' records, what instruments to use, etc., their records may not have been so successful.

Just like Elvis needed to have Col. Tom Parker as his manager and Sam Phillips as his record producer, he probably would not have been as successful as the quality of the production of the record is a major factor.

During the short time that The Beatles were together after they made their debut to the public when Brian Epstein became their manager to the end of the group, yes, I would say The Beatles were unquestionably bigger than Elvis.
