I think you make a lot of sense. Maybe Richie might be just burned out, not into it anymore, maybe not inspired. Something must have happened to him between after the first leg of the tour, and just right before the start of the second. I think it started in Hawaii, when he was spending the holidays with Ava. Who knows. <quoted text>
I thought he left during the first leg? He was in Hawaii with Ava right after he left the tour, wasn't he?
Geez I can't remember now....old age setting in. lol

All I know for sure is that April 3 seems like a lifetime ago to me.

The longer Richie stays away and doesn't offer any kind of explanation, and the longer Phil X stays on, the more Richie risks losing fans.

If Richie thinks that someday he is going to walk onstage and all will be forgiven, then I think he is naÔve to the power of perception, especially as this absence drags out longer and longer.

Perception goes along with reality, and when you don't want to let fans in on reality, at least pay attention to how your communication (or lack thereof) is perceived. You can say enough to placate fans without giving anything away details. You can presume to /care/ about what they think.

Richie did a bit of this with his initial Tweets, but his silence over the past number of weeks isn't helping the perception that he doesn't, perhaps, care about his fans all that much.

The happy pictures don't help his cause, either. Yes, it's good to know he's still alive, but the pictures seem to say to fans:'I'm doing quite all right without you.' Maybe that's not his intention, to communicate that, but that's how a lot of people perceive them.

If he's 'an artist first, and always will be', what does it say when he's at home, working on fashion, while some other guy stands in his place onstage, soaking up the glory that belongs to Richie? We've all seen the passion Richie has for playing; the guy gets in a zone and doesn't try to hide it.

Something just doesn't compute.

Yes well said. I can relate. I loved Richie and I loved the harmonies and the chemistry between Jon and Richie. When he first did not show I was so concerned that something terrible had happened.
But then all his tweets!
Add the fact that Phil has a knack for relating to the fans on a very personal level and yes has developed a very strong chemistry with the band himself. Jon tries not to show it too much so that it is not taken as disrespectful to Richie but there is an obvious very strong chemistry between Phil, Tico, David and Hugh. He is very different from Richie. He is not a copy and his energy and pure joy is infectious. I wish somehow Richie woukd come back and Phil could stay.

Sounds like Jon has a new partner. I hope Richie comes back but I don't think he will. If they aren't talking there will be no resolution. And didn't Jon say they were not talking?

On the one hand for all those who are loving Phil & all this energy he brings well you have a new BJ.

I get the feeling this marriage of sorts just had a nasty divorce. Sometime you just cannot go back & it's best to move on. People get mad at Richie for looking & posting "happy" stuff but maybe, just maybe, he is happy. Maybe he finally had enough. Maybe Jon finally had enough. Who knows?

Nobody's talking. The corporate rolls on. I won't be on the bandwagon but for every me there are others fine with Richie being gone. That's life. They are all living well.

I haven't seen much chemistry between Jon and phil yet! Hopefully Jon will be able to show that a bit more soon.

I think he tries not to out of respect for Richie but if you look at the Edmonton YouTube videos you can see how grateful he was to Phil for coming.

Why would it be disrespectful to Richie?

I think she means if he was having Richie next to him when they do the Wanted salute or when Jon and Richie used to sing be there for you and Richie would come next to Jon. They don't do that anymore.

You clarified some things that have troubled me since this began.

Richie indicated he has personal reasons for being off tour. If someone doesnít believe Richie, consider that Jon knows the reasons and has still said Richie can return when heís ready.Jon led BJ to success and has business sense and good judgment to know if an employee/friend for 30 yrs is taking advantage of a situation and act accordingly. Jon accepted that the reasons are good enough; why canít the fans?

Richie tweeted itís a private matter, he loves his fans and the band, thereís too much to say for him to say anything, and he canít say more until itís resolved. I see nothing that sounds disrespectful or indicates he doesnít care. When ppl started attacking his tweets some suggested he should explain or stay off Twitter. If Richie canít explain yet, maybe he chose the latter.

IMO Richie doesnít look any happier in pix or keeks than Jon does on stage. They both look like theyíre going about life, the best they can, waiting (maybe working behind scene) to resolve the situation that has Richie sitting this one out.

I enjoy my job; but if something goes wrong at work, I can still enjoy my friends or reading. I have a passion for music, but if I canít play guitar or sign in to Rhapsody, I still enjoy a drive through the mountains. Why is it so hard to believe that Richieís reasons for not touring, while important, may not affect EVERY area of his life and he can still enjoy unaffected areas (Ava, petting a pup, other interests)? Is it possible his reasons might, however, affect AOTL and the contest, since they fall within his role as a musician?

Between Jon and Richie, theyíve covered the bases. Why the name-calling, malicious humor, and judgmental attitudes?

I havenít been able to watch WDOA since Apr 3, but I sucked it up to watch the ďJon Bon MarcoĒ video (canít resist kids). Itís cute when Jon shakes his finger each time Marco reaches for the mic. But when the kid raised the mic for the crowd to sing, Jon just lost it. It seemed the stunned delight at the kid pulling such a Jon/Richie move momentarily wiped all the nastiness of the situation from Jonís mind. For a moment, he seemed to truly enjoy being on stage, something I havenít seen from him or Rich since Bamboozle. It hit me later that while I have said all along that I believe this whole thing must be hard for both of them, I have been gutted on Richieís behalf; Jonís pain hadnít hit me viscerally until that moment.

Help me understand why ppl are so angry with Jon, Richie, and each other. What legitimate reason is there for thinking we have a right to expect more info than weíve been given? Can someone explain why some seem to think that, even without details, they have a need or the right to pass judgment on Jon or Richie to the extent that theyíve lost all respect for one or both? Why do ppl feel justified in hurling accusations or insults at each other over a different opinion?

Despite anonymity and distance of the internet, words are powerful weapons. None of the ppl involved in this are imaginary one-dimensional paper cutouts. Jon, Richie, Phil X, Dave, Tico, Hugh, Matt, and the fans on boards are 3D real live people with real feelings. Whether theyíre celebrities or just usernames with forum profiles doesnít change how our words may affect them. Sometimes, like Saturday night when I found myself composing vitriolic responses, I shudder to think how our hateful words (that we might never say face-to-face) have the potential to cause lasting damage Ė especially if we donít know the people we respond or refer to in posts. We canít know what we may trigger with our unkind words. For me, I think itís time to dial it back a notch, if for no other reason than life is too short for that kind of responsibility.
