I know this is going to spark some controversy with all those defensive fans who take it all way too literally- BUT, does anyone remember reading the Rolling Stone magazine that Jon did where he is standing next to a white horse in a cowboy hat (barefooted and baby blue shirt)?

In that article he mentions that he is 'bisexual'. NOW- All these years later, and knowing that Jon sometimes said things to get 'attention' or to play around with the interviewer back in the day, do you think this was a true statement or was he messin' with the interviewer? And, is this the same gal who interviewed him that he got so pissed at because all she kept saying was how sexy he was and he had great hair. I think he later said "If you want to f___, then let's just get on with it, otherwise ask me about my music."

Does anyone want to talk about this? I tried numerous times over the years to find this magazine but to no avail.

?

Wow really? I never heard about that before, I mean that he said that in an interview!

I don't think it's the same interview, that infamous Rolling Stone issue was earlier (1986) and had a different cover.

Did you try to find the article online? Do you know which issue (number) it is? I would love to have that one too!

Hmm now Jon indeed sometimes says stuff just to irk the interviewer or to get attention but...just look at him and Richie...I do think there might be some truth to this.

Hi- No, I can't find the mag. I see it online at some auction sites but I'm not willing to pay that much for it. I really just want to read it so am looking for a dealer in the area that might have a copy. It was very specific to the subject though. Funny thing is, is it wouldn't surprise me at all. There was a lot of excess back then and anything pretty much went. Of course, not as common with men, but it did happen. Many of the guys I went to school with or dated at one time, had 'tried' this. Didn't make them gay, it was just a curiosity thing. Not sure this actually would have taken place with "Richie". That'd be a bit weird afterwards. Maybe he was referring to admiring fan(s) or male groupies. Or escorts. But in any case, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Something tells me he was just 'messin' with the interviewer though. OR- now come to think of it, maybe he said it so as not to alienate the male fans????? Keeping it all neutral......keeping the fantasy alive for both genders?????

Gotta get a copy and read it for myself. If someone has a copy can they please comment?

Sorry- he has a black shirt and pants on, not blue shirt. It looks like issue 545 February 88'

How do I insert a picture? I can post the cover

I just found the cover too...couldn't find the actual interview online either though. Too bad, I'd love to read his actual comment too!

I bet he tried it out, I mean with those drugs and alcohol and excesses back then pretty much everything went I guess.

I was referring to Richie half kidding because they always look so cozy and cuddling and veeery close nowadays...and when they look at each other and sing together...wow now that's magic! There were some interesting quotes from them over the years too. One of Jon from the last tour comes to mind: "This man's voice can do things to my body that women's hands can't!" Nice to know Richie's voice has the same effect on Jon that it has on all the other Richie girls world wide. ;-D

Concerning past experimentation there has been this rumour going round about them saying they had a short lived affair and called it "friendship run amok" later. lol

But I guess we'll never know cause that must be one of those secrets they'll take to their graves...

I recall this coming up before (perhaps even on this forum). A person who actually had the magazine got it out, read it, and said that there was no truth in it--no mention of his being or saying that he was bisexual. I wish our culture would allow men to have close, affectionate friendships without the accusations.

Oh that's great. LOL. Yep. Wouldn't surprise me one bit. He's very sexual and that can open a huge door.
You could be right. It might have been Richie..... or at least once. Taken from those recent pictures, maybe things did go a bit haywire during a 'group' thing. hahaha.

Reminds me one of a man I was engaged to, he was business partners with a guy he'd known since childhood. He was curious about what sex with a man would be like and said the only guy he would try that with was 'Robert', his partner. I laughed every time I saw them together cuz Robert didn't know that he was ever thinking that. LOL.

Anything is possible. Those secrets would be great to know, though.

And I wish our culture would possess enough tolerance to allow people to just live according to their personal wishes and preferences. Nobody was accusing anyone of anything here, because sexual orientation is nothing to be accused for.

LOL I just thought about that one line in one of the songs from Dave's musical "Toxic Avenger". "I'm straight except that one time in college..." lmao Maybe Jon would sing "I'm straight except that one time in the 80s..." LOL

Besides I think the world should allow far more greys in between the black and white, I mean who cares which sexual orientation they have or if Jon loves Richie like a best friend, like a brother, like a lover or all of the above doesn't really matter.

It would be real cool to know those secrets though.

I just know that one of my male friends physically takes after his mother and has fair, delicate features and is fairly slender. He has had to deal with crap all of his life because of it.

In the 80s a lot of bands looked better than some women with their hair and makeup...or they went for the androgynous look. It was a fashion trend and probably that was all it was (and if it wasn't, who cares). I just hate ignorant accusations.

I recall an interview years ago where Jon is asked about a cover than he had killed. The interviewer asked if the photographer was 'light in his loafers' or something like that. Jon rolled his eyes, shook his head, and muttered something about 'he had issues.' Another time in an early interview, Jon was talking and made a comment,'we aren't a faggot band.'(Not referring to his band members but to the band's following not being gay dominate). Very not PC now.

Neither of us were referring to the way Jon "looked". It has nothing to do with the way he looked/looks. I was there in the 80's......you don't have to tell me what the 'norm' was.

It was just a discussion about something said or not said in a magazine.

No one's judging anyone here. No ignorant accusations, no pointing fingers. Just a discussion on a discussion board.

Carry on.

LOL.....that's funny about the 'Toxic Avenger'. I never saw it. Yep- It would be hilarious to hear Jon sing that.....!

There's a lucky guy somewhere out there if it really happened. What a memory that would be.

I figured as much. But because it was said somewhere, it was worth a discussion. I remember early on he was always sayin' chit that could be construed either way. Always keep em guessin'.

I bet the interviewer was bit floored though, if in fact he said it. LOL. I would have dropped a jaw just at the honesty of it all.
