On entertainment tonight's tonight it was said that .. Jon and dorethea were shocked about the news.
They had no idea she had a problem.... Thoughts anyone? Either way glad they found out before the problem continued.....

The ET website might post the show for November 19 tomorrow. The November 16 show is posted on the website today.

That is not new, I've heard that they were shocked too. This is a girl who was helping out at soul kitchen and going on vacation with her family to Greece, American parks throughout the summer. It doesn't seem like a wild girl hiding from her parents. They will get through this.

As you don't know Stephanie, don't know her medical history don't know her drug history and don't know the facts of what happened, it's a bit difficult to say what she should and shouldn't be doing or where she should and shouldn't be.

Those who do know - Jon, Dorothea, their family physician and Stephanie herself, are the only ones who can say what treatment she needs, how it should be accessed and where it should be.

THANK YOU!!! All is guessing is getting us no where. We don't even know what happened or the background and already people are saying she needs rehab. Only her parents and Steph can decide what happens and what is best.

I have 3 kids 2 daughters aged 13 and 20 and a son aged 16. Since I read about what happened to stephanie I cannot help but wondering about my 2 eldest. My eldest daughter studied for 2 years in a town about 2 hours driving and thus she stayed at a student residence then (until last june). I know she sometimes used to party, she told us about some drinks that she likes .... But then I do not know how far she has been and if she ever smoked whatever. Her 2 first years at college there were very tough, she had a lot of work and the level was very high (now she is in her third year at a closer college and can come back home every day). I sometimes imagine now that she had used things to keep awaken and study more etc.... Though I have not a single clue for that, I can help but thinking of it for a few days now. My son has many friends who sometimes drink and smoke (herb). He said he does not smoke and told us once that he had tasted beer, vodka and whisky but really found the taste awful wondering how people could drink that .... But honestly these days I've wondering if we know everything about our kids ..... I told my son about stephanie's'heroin overdose and he answered that he did not understand why some were going to something as strong as heroin .... I might have to question them about whether they even tried something but they would quite surely say no and thus I am sure I won't be satisfied with their answers and will keep worrying !

Lesley, I'll agree with you to an extent. I wouldn't make a statement of which facility she should be in because I don't know specifically which drugs she has taken and for how long.

But I think it's perfectly reasonable for people to state she should be in rehab. I've mentioned this in a different thread. A drug-free person may be willing to try pot, but I just don't believe someone with no history of drug use is willing to give heroin a go. It's just not what you start with. Even if this was her first time using heroin, there's been other drug use that led up to this, which means even if she's not specifically hooked on heroin there are still addiction issues that need to be addressed.

*shrug* I just don't believe I need to know her (or any other addict with this set of circumstances) personally to know that he/she should be in rehab.

I agree that heroin is not likely to be the first drug she tried, but I am perplexed why you assume she has an addiction problem. Lots of people smoke dope. It is legal in many states. Just because someone smokes doesn't mean they are addicted. Being addicted or doing something on occasion are different. What makes you believe she is addicted to anything? She could have just been experimenting and because she is so petite it was too strong for her. Im curious what percentage of heroin users are killed the first time they try it. Such a dangerous drug. I hope it was only a first and last try.

Now this is why I have a problem with all the speculation. I think labelling a person an :"addict" without knowing (and not guessing at or speculating about) their drug history is problematic.

I agree with Lucky that just because someone smoke pot occasionally doesn't make them an addict (and I say this as someone who has never even tried it so I'm not trying to downplay my own (non-existent) drug use).

I've read your opinions on this topic on various threads on the board and I'd be interested to know what research you base your opinion on that (a) Stephanie is an addict and (b) a person who uses heroin has ALWAYS used something else previously.

I'm hoping that this heroin thing was a "first try gone bad" and that she'll never touch the stuff again. If that's the case, no, the girl does not need rehab. I'm sure she would have learned her lesson with this. Plus the fact that her father is so, shall we say, "well known", this was made very very public and would be embarrassing. If I were a kid that age, I'd be highly mortified at having this played out in the media. Here's hoping the best for Stephanie, Jon, Dorothea and family.

Lesley and Lucky, perhaps you're right that people need to stop speculating. I can only imagine how I would react. Glad I haven't had to (*cringe*, yet).

By the way, even though the charges were dropped against her, I'm hoping (and could almost bet) that Jon and Dorothea are not going to be so forgiving and just sweep this under the carpet. Being the great parents that it sounds like they are, they aren't going to just enable Steph by letting this "just go away". While Jon and Dorothea are obviously very loving parents, I'm sure they are very capable of being "tough love" parents as well. Steph is going to have to earn their trust again.

Yeah right, Jon's having a ball at the stand up guys premier in LA lastnight. he leaves it all to his wife to deal with. He still runs away from home and family issues. No wonder she's doing drugs

How come all the GOOD stuff is KNOWN of him, but when someone mentions something on the negative side, we are all told, "Oh you don't know him" As if the people who praise him do? I'm just sayin' No one on here personally knows him.
