So here's a new song from Richie, Come Back As Me. I love his voice, luric and guitar is great but it sounds a bit popish. Still, I like the song :)

Come Back As Me
by Richie Sambora

What do you want me to say
I’ll tell you anything you want to know
You want to know about disappointment
Baby, I have watched that show
I’ve been up, I’ve been down
You’ve seen me crawl with my face on the ground
This pain, this pride
I carry around like a knife in my side

In spite of it all
For that you see
If I die tomorrow I’d come back as me
Rewind and press play
I’ll burn out the screen
If I die tomorrow I’d come back as me

Hey, what do you want me to say
I gave her everything I could give
But everything just wasn’t enough
So I just let live and let live
I got lost, I got found
Break my heart but it don’t make a sound
Hard times, bad luck
I’ve had my share but it’s turning around

Grateful for the burden
Even the fallen felt good
So here’s my revelation
Won’t be misunderstood

In spite of it all and common belief/ comic relief????
If I die tomorrow I’d come back as me
Rewind and press play
I’ll burn out the screen
If I die tomorrow I’d come back as me

(turn it up baby)

Grateful for the burden
Even the fallen felt good
So here’s my revelation
I won’t be misunderstood

In spite of it all
For all that you see
If I die tomorrow I’d come back as me
Not Elvis or God
Not Frankie not Dean
If I die tomorrow I’d come back as me

In spite of it all
For all that you see
If I die tomorrow I’d come back as me
Not Elvis or God
Not Frankie not Dean
If I die tomorrow I’d come back as me

Jeez, slam at Jon much, Richie? At least that's the major opinion of what I'm reading around the web. I'm reading posted lyrics a little different for example "I gave it/you everything I could give" which changes the meaning. Wouldn't hold my breath for him to return in September. They all need to stop this nonsense and sit down alone, without outside influences, and hash this crap out. I don't want to see then end of the band I love :(

I doubt Richie will return in September. Let me say this: The concert Thursday in NJ was epic!!! I barely noticed Richie wasn't there. I absolutely missed him @ the end of"Wanted" them both doing a last strum on their guitars in the air, but all in all fabulous job by the entire band!!! I can't believe he's away this long but whatever... Good luck to him, but hopefully he returns to us lol and the Band!!:-P

I'm with you I like it but he needs to stop with the pop. Hopefully he will get back to the RNR. I know he has been writing so hopefully we are going to hear more soon. I wonder where this can be purchased?

I can't say I'm all that thrilled with this song. I saw the "Frankie and Dean" line is an almost too-direct jab at Jon (and especially after Richie Tweeted that the "lyrics are timely"). You don't say, Richie!*rolls eyes* It seems pretty passive-aggressive and childish to release this particular song now. Both Jon and Richie need to sit down in a room together and hash this thing out instead of resorting to veiled comments in interviews and pointed song lyrics.

In terms of style, it's too "pop" for my taste, overall. Sounds like the Hollywood/L/A./dance music stuff Nikki does. I do like the guitar solo.

It's great he's still making music and being creative. I hope we see another solo album from him sooner rather than later. Personally, I'd love something more "torch-song-like", something like "Mr. Bluesman" or "Forgiveness Street." I love his voice on the "mood" songs the most.

Now I'm reading this is not a brand spanking new song so, who knows. This has gotten way too time consuming. LOL :)

EDIT: I just went to JoviTalk and someone had posted that they had a radio interview from a few years ago where Richie mentions this song by name. So, chances are, it was an "Aftermath" outtake that didn't make it to the final album.

Still, though, the lyrics are almost painfully relevant to the whole Jon/Richie drama going on right now, even if it wasn't going on --(or wasn't going on to the extent it is now)--when Richie originally wrote the song.

Maybe, for what it's worth, Richie has struggled with being boxed into the whole "Frankie and Dean" thing for years and just decided to address it in that song. The issue going on between them right now just adds a new layer of angst to it, imo.

He did write - they lyrics are timely.

I understood that too mean, that he wrote the lyrics before all this happened but it's describes what they are going through now. Sort of like a sixth sense into the future.

Maybe some people try too hard to read under the line. Especially if the song was written some months or years ago IMO

All I can say about this song is it's just bad, very bad.
I don't mind the pointed lyrics if that is how Richie was/is feeling but I really don't get this need he seems to have with both AM and this to try to sound like some young pop star. I get he likes the styles and sounds of these young artists but these sounds and styles aren't his. I'm not saying he can't try something new and different but it should be some reflection of his 30 plus years musical/ guitar experience, not some throw away sounds like 20 other pop songs on the radio song.

Sounds like he's trying to hard to hit the younger market. A lot of artist do that, and they evidently come back to their roots. I hope Richie does that. Its not a horrible song, just not his best.

I guess this is the interview you are talking about?

He didn't mention this song it's just a common frase when you despite your ups and downs still think it was worth it :) That's my humble opinion anyway :)

However, he could easily take an older song and change/update lyrics.

I think this song gets better each time I listen to it. It's cut to the bone honest, raw, has a nice beat and awesome guitar solo and absolutely no clichés like the songs we get from the band.

What's the point of being an artist if you can't say what's on your mind? An artist who writes to please the crowd will end up selling himself short. This is refreshing.

Happy to see Richie being creative even in his time off from the band :)

The song is horrible and anyone who railed against WAN for being too pop and then states they like this is a hypocrite.

Metlife show last Saturday was epic. I like Richie but even without him last Saturday, it was a great show with Phil X. Back to Richie, he is like a cry baby right now IMO (sorry die hard Richie fans). I don't know what the future holds for Bon Jovi. Will this band I love so much continue with Richie or no Richie? Allowing he will come back, but the question is for how long will he keep playing/working (commitment??) with the band until he pulls this AWOL thing again? Will the rest of the band, the fans, the organization (let's face it music is a business now it's not 70's or 80's anymore)day by day keep fingers cross hoping he will not make a phone call again before showtime that he can' make it because he has other personal stuff more important to do? He is offended if his absence is referred to his problems in the past (you know what is is) but unless he say something himself the big WHY??? this is happening. Just imagine if Jon is acting like this (definitely sure he will not) we might have no Bon Jovi. I am just sick of this Richie thing.. it's either he is in or out.. if he is out definitely then the band can move on..
