He says many people are afraid Presidnt Obama will reinstitute an ssault-weapons ban.

I recently bought 2 handguns, an AR15, and lots of ammo. I plan on buying a lot more as well. If the assault weapon ban is reinstituted hat o you think is going to happen to he price of my cherry AR15?
When the economic collapse comes, I will not be a victim.

You and those like you are "anti-american" and "anti-constitution". If you libs want to live in a totalitarian society move to China or other communist countries. Even the Romans knew that they could tyrannize, enslave and take over nations if they were first "disarmed". You are deluded if you think its ONLY about gun control! Freedom depends certain rights. You obviously like someone "controlling your life".

Will it be a left-wing or right-wing government?

As for the person who said "you libs,"

1. you make a blanket assumption (an error of logic known as a generalization, as well as stereotyping) that if I even slightly question the idea of gun ownership MUST be a liberal, and

2. name-calling is not rational debate; it's a tactic used by politicians of all parts of the political spectrum to get people angry. God forbid they allow people to think calmly about an issue.

For the record, I am: pro-gay marriage, middle-of-the-road on guns, hard right on abortion, a deficit hawk rather than a supply-sider or Keynesian, for starters. Not registered with any party either.

Hardly a word was said about George taking away your guns.

Obama hasn't done anything to restrict the second amendment, if anything he has expanded it.

It was the republicans who passed the "Patriot Act".

Funny they were saying at the time "if you aren't doing anything wrong, what are you worried about".

Coommunist?

Totalitarian?

Now you whine?

Poor teabagger.

What's wrong with that saying is that it's directly opposite to our justice system.

We operate under the principle of "innocent until proven guilty" (that should be "unless" instead of "until" as it makes finding someone guilty seem just a matter of time).

But what the Bush Administration was saying is "It is not the government's burden of proof to find you guilty; it is your burden of proof to prove yourself innocent." That's how Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany and other dictatorships operate.

I would think that with all the news about shootings (kids, schools, shopping centers, etc), most people would want some kind of heavy-duty laws regarding guns in general. At least a psychological screening before buying one and getting the rights to carry a ranged weapon. But ... most people are blind to common sense and reason. It's all about the "me me me" isn't it? At least until someone you know gets hurt or dead.

@Joey:

I'd agree with you that a screening, denying gun ownership to the mentally ill, or to those who've committed violent crimes (from murder to spousal abuse would be common sense.

Those objecting will say "Our criminal justice system is based on `innocent until proven guilty.' If someone hasn't done anything wrong yet, you're denying him or her a right gaurenteed under the Constitution.

"And how do you know that a person offended once and will again? Or that someone mentally ill will be violent?"

I agree with you about preventive measures. But what would you say to a person who makes those objections?

To me, it comes down to a conflict between the right of the public to be safe versus the right of a citizen to be armed. I'd say society should win on this one. But that's just me.

Pretty much shows that its the crazies that hoard guns. No amount of their ranting about rights shows they are mentally stable.
