If the minor cuts to spending in the upcoming "cliff" are so horrible, then how are we EVER going to cut enough spending to actually balance the budget, much less start paying down the $16 TRILLION national debt?

We have NEVER had a balanced budget in this country- EVER. Even during the so-called "surplus" of the Clinton years, that was only a surplus on paper because they were counting all the excess payroll taxes paid into social security.

There is simply no way to cut enough spending to balance the budget without getting rid of the dept of defense or Medicare- PERIOD.

When the Bush administration packed up, they left behind $10 of the $16 trillion and a few more coming to meet expenses in Iraq, Afghanistan and paying interest; what did you say then?

7 trillion of that was when slick willie packed up and left the Whitehouse, with Hillary in tow with dishes, Monica paid off and the Oval office in shambles.

Good intent? That's not the way I remember it.
The way I remember it was a bunch of cowards cringing last year in fear that any decision would cost them their jobs. Now they got re-elected (most of 'em anyway) and have to do the jobs they promised they'd do.

If they had good intent, there'd be no problem.

The same as I say now- end ALL the wars and bring our troop home from across the world and cut the defense budget IN HALF; stop ALL foreign aid; end social security for all those currently under age 18; cut govt ALL govt employees (including Congress) by 50% and cut all remaining govt employee pay by 50%; cut the budgets of ALL cabinet departments by 50%, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Once the budget is balanced and the debt is paid off, THEN we can see how much is left over.
