"In the event of a health emergency at this independent living community our practice is to immediately call emergency medical personnel for assistance and to wait with the individual needing attention until such personnel arrives," Toomer said in a written statement. "That is the protocol we followed."

So what they are saying is being a good samaritan is not allowed.

It sounds like they are confusing company 'policy' with the law and/or what is morally & ethically correct.

They are using 911 as a subcontractor. Why bother to hire anyone with nurse on their resume.

Why does she even bother to put the word nurse or herself in the same sentence?

Not exactly an "assisted" living community either.

Hope they are not taking government money. Bad enough they are using 911 as a subcontractor.

I thought 'assisted living' was new age for retirment home. What do retirement homes have no matter how you put it-assistance. I think the wording 'independent' is a lawyer's choice of words. Sounded like she was in a dinning room where meals were prepared for the residents-that's assistance.

But a nurse whose purpose in life is to render assistance is the crux of the matter here. She proudly stood by and followed company policy and not the professional tenants of her job and possibly license.

This woman, this "NURSE" - is a very disgusting woman. Her tone in the 911 call was flat and unaffected by the fact a human life was slipping away right in front of her. KUDOS and BLESSINGS to the 911 Operator who tried and begged to get this dumb B!tch to do the right thing and administer CPR. You have to be a sick human being to put a company policy over a persons life and I hope this idiot nurse burns in hell.

Basically a severe case of "NOT MY JOB" syndrome. The so called nurse was more worried about her job.

They say she was hired to be a director or something. This woman has no business using the term nurse or her name in the same sentence.

This story as you know has gone out all over the country. All the people I talk to about this feel the so called Nurse should be charged with something. Most feel that the company and the nurse should be sued and maybe the company shut down for unsafe practice. This really stinks.

Just for the sake of what our nation is turning into, perhaps the nurse should have done CPR. There are a few things though that may work for her... The patient was 87 years old. Was the patient sickly? Was the patient in constant pain? Performing CPR on an elderly person can cause more damage if she/he survives. Bones are noticeably weaker as we age for an example. Did the patient request the nurse not to do anything to keep her alive if the worse happened? Was the patient aware of her surroundings in her normal state? Did the patient have a living will? Just some issues or questions.

SO LET HER SUFFOCATE TO DEATH IF SHE WAS IN PAIN? WTF is wrong with you? There was not DNR on file. Get a grip before you rattle of some asinine comment please.

I do not know her situation. I stated that. Suffocation the cause of her death? What was the reason? Pain is a potential issue she lived with. If you are a progressive just wanting to argue go ph uk urself. If you are truly concerned then I do not know all of the particulars of this case and am not pulling the cord on someone who is truly alive and cognizant and will/would live the rest of her years enjoying everything left.

The Nurse FAILED her profession and should be removed from it.

The daughter of the Person that was left to die should be very ashamed for saying that there was no problem with the Nurse having so.

Unless the woman had a DNR and died in her bed,a trained Nurse letting her die on the floor without doing anything is a criminal. She had committed a crime against society,no matter what her daughter said.

They had a duty to the poor woman, they breached it. Damages are due. A Crime against the State has occurred even if the Daughter dismissed it.

When asked if someone else was there that could do CPR the Nurse replied "Not at this time".
The Nurse sounded VERY apathetic and as if she was on drugs.

A severe case of 'NOT MY JOB' syndrome. She was even offered on the spot training and/or a refresher for something she should've already known.

So if someone is choking on a piece of food, they call 911 to have an EMT speed all the way to the facility to do the Heimlich Maneuver instead of the "nurse" at the facility doing it

I heard 911 got calls to help off the floor after falling. They are using 911 services as an after the fact clean up contractor in many cases.
