Risk is at heart of debate on troop withdrawal
The debate over how many U.S. troops will remain in Afghanistan after 2014 comes down to risky business. There is a risk that leaving too few troops after 2014 would stop or stall the already slow development of the Afghan army and police, whose competence - and that of the Afghan government as a whole - is crucial to ending the war successfully. On ... They may feel that it is important to leave enough troops so that they don't stall the development and competence of Afghan police and military and thus that of the Afghan government but that presumes that there is a unified Afghan government which there is not. Harmed Karzai in actuality is little more than the mayor of Kabul, the people of the country are part of tribal groups and have no feeling of nationalism towards Afghanistan and its elected government. The government will never be in control of the entire country and if we are waiting for that we will have people there for ever acting as a magnet for attacks.

We knew that before Bush led us into this quagmire.

Yes of course, it is bush s fault we all know that.

Time to TOTALLY exit the occupation of this foreign country.
We invaded Afghanistan to 'get' the Taliban who were giving protection to Osama & Co.
Now the Afghan government is getting cozy again WITH the Taliban.
There is nothing more we can to for that god-forsaken country.
Bring our men and women HOME, NOW! Before another of our people are injured or killed in that crazy country.

Troop withdrawal won't even be happening. 10,000 US soldiers are scheduled to remain indefinitely after 2014 to 'train afghan soldiers'. Please what a farce.

Afghan army and police are deserting with their weapons left and right as well as killing American soldiers on a regular basis. The Afghan government is as corrupt as ever from the top down and along with it's military is directly involved in the production and distribution of opium and the resulting heroin.
Afghanistan has never been conquered, not even the Soviets with a million soldiers and brutal methods was able to conquer the country in the 10 years they were there so America has not a snowballs chance.
