They were not exactly the same, no. But they had the common elements of
1: no containment vessel (just steel)
2: flammable graphic moderator
3: high running temperature
4: the physics of "xenon poisoning" doesn't change because the reactor is in the USA.
I repeat the point. IF these reactors were MISHANDLED in the same way as Chernobyl, they would have produced a similar incident to Chernoby. Now stop diddling about irrelevant trivia like air cooling vs helium cooling.
Let us just take xenon poisoning I never spoke of the "PHYSICS" of xenon poisoning what I said was the operators had no clue about it. That is why after the reactor operated for it period of time the inertial turbine generator rotation on supplying electric power to the RCP's was to be done on the first shutdown. However the plant was called and told to go back up in power and get onto the grid for another 12 to 24 hours. When they went to S/D the reactor they thought it was more important to do the test then control the reactor which they had immediate problems doing once under 10% power. Even with this signal they continued to ignore every safety system as well as station operating procedures to conduct the test. What I am implying by this is operators in western world reactors know about xenon not just engineers.
