Revenue must be part of any budget deal: Harry Reid

Full story: Reuters

The top Senate Democrat said on Sunday tax revenue must be part of any deal to replace looming automatic spending cuts, despite Republican warnings that they will not buckle over this issue after conceding on tax rises for the rich a month ago.

OMFG! Republicans already caved into Democrat demands on higher taxes. Now the Democrats are demanding more taxes, with increased spending? Democrats truly are brain dead.

Actually, the socialist Democrats appear to be very smart. They almost ALWAYS get so-called "conservatives" to cave to their demands, and then demand more. That's been their modus operandi for decades, and it's always worked.

And the sheep keep re-electing them, so why should they change anything?

Let the sequestration happen; it's the only way spending will be cut. And this is just a drop in the bucket compared to the cuts necessary to actually balance the budget, much less pay down the debt.

All the whining & hysteria over these tiny cuts.

We have over $1 TRILLION annual deficits.

It's going to take MASSIVE spending cuts AND MASSIVE taxation to ever get a balanced budget.

And people are whining about a $1.2 trillion in cuts over a 10 year period? That's only $120 million in cuts per year.

Again, we need to cut over a TRILLION dollars EVERY YEAR just to balance the budget.

"$1.2 trillion in cuts over a 10 year period? That's only $120 million in cuts per year"

$120 billion/year. Still the amount is negligible in the broad scope. The cuts should be deeper.

Ooops, thanks for catching my typo.

But yes, my point is still valid.

All this bitching & moaning over $120 billion in cuts per year when our annual deficts are over $1 trillion per year.

More revenue and less wasteful spending, especially on "Defense," have to go hand in hand. But err on the side of more spending when you're in a recession. If Republicans are too stupid to understand this and continue to fight for cuts, cuts, and more cuts, we will be back in a recession.

And they will blame Obama. And they will be lying, as usual.

What we need to realize is that recovery, NOT the debt or yearly deficits, is the most important thing.

Foolishly cutting spending to serve the cause of an unnecessary and purely ideological need to "balance the budget" would be self-destructive.

And now back to the real world:

It is liberals who are too stupid to realize that our government cannot spend us out of recession.

The only way grow our economy is to reduce the regulatory burden that drives economic activity away from the United States.

Get Obama and the Democrats foot off the throat of business, and our economy will grow, guaranteed.

So yes, it is indeed Obama's fault that we have the debt we currently do, and it is also Obama's fault that our this recession has lasted as long as it has.

Prof, we have spent trillions by Bush and Obama. To what end? What is the result? Unemployment is still high. Economy struggling. GDP:Debt is close to 110%. We need to cut spending, not spend more.
