Jesus didn't force people to give up their money. He only asked that they be charitable if they wish to follow him. Nor did Jesus ask the government to forcefully take money from people to give aid to the poor. Jesus knew theft was one of God's big ten no-no's.

Absolutely spot on. And I like the quote.
Thanks, but I screwed it up. He actually said "I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution, that grants Congress the right, of expending on articles of benevolence, the money of their constituents."

Just in case you want to use it in the future :-D

Really? SS sends out annual statements showing all your contributions to the program and what you would be paid today if you retired. Now take that pamphlet to a reputable investment company and ask them to calculate what you would be worth today had all that money been invested in a conservative growth account all of these years.
Why is Social Security so difficult for some people to understand?
By law, since 1939, it must be in invested in securities backed by the U.S. government, which essentially are IOUs: The government uses the cash for other programs but promises to pay it back with interest. By law, it must be paid back.–Why is that so difficult for some people to understand–? I suspect, the answer to that is that they have no desire to understand it, because they desperately hold to the troglodyte right-wing fiction that the funds are "gone" - so they can outright lie to younger people and irresponsibly mislead them into thinking they will never see a dime of their Social Security. That is false in every way and on so many different levels.

Nobody has said social security is bankrupt. They are saying that it is headed in that direction.
Being required by law to pay it back doesn't mean anything. This country is $16 trillion in debt. Social security is: being defrauded by illegals, drawn on by illegals, amnesty is being granted to the young ones, bills are being introduced to grant amnesty to the older ones, beginning to pay out to the Baby Boomers which will be retiring in record numbers for decades to come, with fewer people working to pay into it. It's not rocket science.
People are required by law to pay back their debts too. What happens when they go broke and declare bankruptcy?
You can't get blood out of a turnip.
If you can't see that, you are blind to reality.

Not at all. How do you explain the fact that most SS recipients get back more than they pay in? By the 1% interest rate gained by SS? Sorry, that doesn't work mathematically.

Sure, there are IOU's and plenty of them. But when those IOU's come due, where does the government get the funds to replace them? Think of that!

See, in my IRA account, nobody is borrowing one dime of my money. Nobody is buying votes with my money. If I die before I can collect, my family gets all of that money I contributed to my IRA. They won't see one dime from SS.

Now the talk is about making people work longer. Oh really? These are usually the suit and tie people promoting this. But they can't explain how they will make a roofer climb up and down those ladders and work on dangerous heights at the age of 67. Or perhaps a bricklayer or carpenter. Maybe even a carpet layer? Did you ever try to carry a room sized carpet into a room? Their knees are usually shot by the time they reach their mid 50's. I'll even take my profession: a truck driver. When the roads ice up, and quick reactions are needed to stop a 70,000 lbs vehicle, do you want to be the car in front of me when I'm driving that truck?

If everything was so fine and dandy, politicians from both sides would not be talking about increasing the age of retirement. They would be giving SS recipients cost of living increases. But they aren't, and do you know why? Social Security is going broke, and don't let any politician tell you different.

Ever wonder why the wealthy are exempt from social security? Contrary to what GOPers want you to believe social security does not contribute to the national debt – period!
Here’s the reality:
No matter what, even if no financing changes are made, Social Security can pay 100% of anticipated benefits out through 2037. Even after that, if no changes are made, enough money will still be coming in to pay about 75% of anticipated benefits for roughly 50 more years after 2037.(We can’t speak to what will happen after that because the Social Security actuaries only look 75 years into the future when they make estimates.) The total amount of wages that are subject to Social Security tax (also known as the “wage pool”) does not equal 100% of the total amount of wages paid to workers in the United States.
That’s because income above a certain amount (at the moment,$106,800) is exempt from Social Security taxes. During the 1980s and early 1990s, the wage pool represented about 90% of all wages ... but because wage income has become more and more concentrated in the hands of the highest wage earners, 15 years later the wage pool now represents only about 83% of all wages. In fact: due to high levels of earnings inequality, roughly 1% of the population earn 10% of all the earnings.
Removing that $106,800 cap and making all wage income taxable for Social Security purposes, all by itself, will either solve the funding problem entirely or get you to 99% of where you need to be. Would you prefer that Social Security benefits be cut, now and in the future, or would you prefer to see the wealthiest among us pay their fair share of Social Security taxes, just as every other wage earner does—and cut the tax rate, both at the same time?
How exactly are the wealthy exempt from Social Security? They must pay the tax for just over the first $100,000 of the income. They do pay. Benefits are capped. If the cap on income is removed would you support removing the cap on benefits?

Social Security does cost. In 2010 the government had to borrow $37 billion to keep the program funded.

This time it says:
Security Warning
Do you want to install this hardware?
When I click no, it kicks me off Topix. So, I have to find the page and start all over again.
Before this I must have gotten scores of Norton warnings blocking every post.
Norton is dangerous so I've gotten rid of their progam, but it didn't make any difference.
I think it was probably Norton security that was behind an email about one of my Works files.
That means Norton is monitoring computers for information.
This is really dangerous, and just a step away from keeping all of us, who post the truth about the Fed, off the internet completely.
They still can't openly cut access, so they try to harass people into giving up.
Keep posting warnings about Norton, etc. every day.
If you can't stand up to them here, you're truly a loser.
Symantec is attacking you? You sound like Tory and the cops. He thinks every cop in the world is out to get him. You believe a corporation is out to get you. I assure you, that corporation has no idea who you are and doesn’t give a damn about you.

It’s over $200 million. I buy one set of numbers for 10 draws every 5 weeks. Not because I expect to win but it’s a voluntary tax. But, if you don’t play you can’t win. Never know.

My guess is “protester” is going to go off about the lottery now claiming it’s an unfair tax on the poor.

Obviously you don't know much about guns. Guns not only retain their value, but also increase depending on the firearms you own. You don't lose money with guns, you lose money by not having guns to protect yourself.

39.6%, I max out Social Security contributions every year anyway so wouldn't be hit with that and Florida doesn't tax income.

I'm sure there's an island or two that can be purchased for just a few million. Why would you want that? Always with the boat to do anything.
