The King of Blues: B.B. King's Still on Top

Mar 3, 2014 Full story: The Stranger

The word "prestige" isn't exactly synonymous with the blues, that most earthy and gritty music; yet if anyone's earned the title of prestigious bluesman, it would be B.B. King , nearing 90 years old and still gigging at a rate that would shame most of these young whippersnappers.

The concert was extremely disappointing with BB barely playing or singing at all. He did not even play all of The Thrill is Gone. It definitely is. He seemed lost, at one point trying to get the audience to sing You Are My Sunshine. and not seeming to be able to play or think what to play anymore. In the end he simply said, "I don't have anymore, folks." What a sad, sad event and I'm happy I did not pay for the expensive tickets.

They need to stop expecting people to shell out the bucks for very little performance. His total time onstage was one hour. Fifteen minutes to introduce band members. Actual performance time was all of 20 minutes. He seemed confused toward the end. Either BB himself is being unrealistic or someone else is pushing him out on the road long past the time when he should be out there. His elderly musicians are all good and could play on their own. He needs to hang it up and rest.

Seen BB in St. Louie on Friday, April 4th. What a shame and a sham! I totally agree with previous. SOMEONE is either forcing Mr. King to sell tickets because he is definitely NOT performing. WE had the same exact scenario in St Lou. 20 minute warm up by his band..... 20 minute introduction of band members (half he could'nt remember their names.... 2 BB King songs that were a mess. Another "you are my sunshine" sang 25 minutes. I was sad at the time but now pissed off he's continuing to book gigs and under-perform. NOT Happy with B.B. King!
