Why is this major news?

I put on WAPA on for a second in the morning as i usually do before i head out the door. This was all they talked about. Then out of curiosity. I put on one of the radio stations from PR on the net. Again...this was all they talked about.

Yes. He is a major politician in PR.

However, this is a dustup he had in his home. It is personal.

Isn't there anything else in PR much more important than this?

We know there is.

Of course, the opposing party will "milk" this for all it's worth. He is not running for governor, though.

Everyone knows that Ferrer has a mercurial temperment.

And???

Let's move on for this.

Santini must be a happy man.

He just won the election.

A sad fact of politics. It is ugly and there is no privacy.

Tell me about it, man.

This story has legs and more legs. It's only been a little more tha 24 hours.

I listened to some of the story in a little more detail last night on one of the popular shows that i'm too embarassed to even say i watched...LOL!

This was just what i thought. It was a personal matter that escalated out of hand. It started out with the wife going on facebook. She compained about her husband, to others's. Not kool! One should not air their families dirty laundry. Especially on the net.

Unfortunetely, he will have to resign most likeky.

It is just spiraling out of control.

Well, Now they are saying he didn't beat his wife.

It was just a heated argument with things being thrown.

What couple hasn't had one of those?..LOL!

==========

Apparently......An overzealous meddling family member of the wife's who doesn't like Ferrer and is a member of the opposing party, saw this a golden oppurtunity to take him down and URGED her to call the police.

You see why it is not good to "rush to judgement"?

This could potentially destroy the man's career and livelihood.

==========

Even so. An order of protection is the standard thing to do in these type of cases.

Hopefully, it will blow over when the facts come out.

There still is a long time before the elections.

8 months is a lifetime in politics.

You are worst than a bad gossiper, who in the world said the wife's fam was from the opposition? They just got involved cause her daughter was getting physically abused and if Ferrer got the 54 LAW means he was beating her.

Who the hell are you??

This is a PUBLIC forum. I can post as i please.

You don't like it?. Feel free to not answer.

==========

FYI. Someone from the wife's family is a member of the opposition.

You just "halfway" admitted that her family was involved.

Who said the daughter was being physically abused?

I have not heard any talk of that.

BACK IT UP!!

You sound like you are the one gossiping.

BTW. The order of protection was WITHDRAWN yesterday.

Just what i thought. She was NOT physically abused and this was just a domestic dispute that got out of control.

Most people are.

He will get through this, though.

Already, the order was withdrawn. That was the first most important step to get his political life back on track.

Hopefully his family will be reconciled and everything will be back to normal.

This distraction is needed in an election/plebcite year like a proverbial "hole in the head".

The fall of the PPD's major politician is the worst news to hit that political party and its fall from grace.

He, Ferrer, was the "great white hope" for the "populares".

The guy, not only had a meteoric political career, at such a young age...he comes from the PPD's "great political" lineage (his grandfather was one of their best legislators, until he fell from grace....

Maybe is time, repeating itself all over again.

Even I, as a statehooder, liked Ferrer Ríos (even more than many of my own party's politicians.

Heh Jorge,

Yeah. This is big.

Do you think he has a realistic shot at returning at some point in the near future if he does end up resigining?

As we say in Spanish, the guy is fighting "como gato boca arriba" in order to save his career.

I am watching, as I write this, and listening to each and every analysis....(in tv and radio) after Ferrer just gave a press conference where he blames the current govt., for his hardships...and using its power against him....

Promise to get back to ya´...

I don't think he was hiding anything. My position is that it is a private matter between a couple. Frankly, i don't believe her. I just think they had a dysfunctional relationship. It is also known he has a mercurial temparement... NO SECRET!...She doesn't sound like a prize herself. I say that as a man and husband and father.

He intimidated her with threats of taking away custody of the kid. Tht probably wouldn't happen, anyway... However, it worked and she obviously panicked. He "overplayed" his hand with that. She might have overplayed her's as well. NOBODY will hire her in PR as anybody's respectable lawyer. Now, Mr Ferrer might be short of cash and this will affect his monthly obligation to their son in common. At least for the short term. Until he gets his ducks in order again in the way of employment and counseling.

One thing is certain. They had problems for a while now. He should have cut her loose a long time ago.

IT COST HIM!

==========

However, he is still young. Perhaps, he can come back at some point.

This definetely gives him notoriety. The kind that one can come back with some rehabilitation.

The PPD is going to lose.

I have always been for the party.

However, i can't see the PDP having a realistic shot this election year.

They will get SWAMPED...Again...

The PNP should not take this and sit back on their laurels and think this will translate into statehood votes.

TWO SEPARATE ISSUES.

Voters are generally more savvy than parties think.

Correction: I cant see the PPD having a realistic shot this year with all this.

The PNP will exploit this to no end. That is their speciality. They are just as adept as the Stateside Republicans with "tar and feathering" opponents.

They would make Lee Atwater proud.

Eventually, the PPD (be it under that name or another name) will win an election...in the future...

All we demand from every politician in the islands is honesty and a clean record (while in office).

We have to deal with too many thugs, criminals, and depravity (in our daily life) to, on top of it all, be electing them also.

O andan derechitos o van de cabeza a la cárcel, o pa' fuera, sin siquiera haber cumplido todo el término.

So far we have expelled 8 legislators and/or mayors (which by the way is no record)....

Yep....but, you have to remember that the average education in P.Rico is 8th grade.

So, there's an electorate which responds to that kind of dirty campaign and who can care less about "sh----stuff" such as unemployment rate, economic activity, social entitlements, urban infrastructure, agriculture, etc....

Funny.

But it's sad but true, Jorge.

The things that really matter are not giving proper consideration by the masses.

Dirty campaigns work.

Although Ferrer did this to himself.
