Have you ever listened to a note of Atmosphere or P.O.S.?

Yep, hip-hop always creates a family-friendly "atmosphere." The Twin Cities push for diversity is destroying this area.

I have listened to and quite enjoy POS and Atmosphere, but their profanity laced Hip Hop is not right for what is supposed to be a family friendly event. No, they are not hard core gangster rap but there is quite a bit of profanity in their music. If they can make it through the whole set without swearing it might actually work but I doubt they will do the right thing and avoid cuss words...therefore I will stay away from the taste of MN that night and bring my kids there some other time.

Yea, never mind the fact that Atmosphere and P.O.S. are two of the bigger acts to come out of the Twin Cities in recent years, or that they are both excellent performers. It must be some deeper, political, agenda...kids these days and their crazy music.

I welcome the Taste making an effort to have good music finally.

Please do. Maybe Molly Hatchet or Skynard will play next year and you can go enjoy yourself.

I'll give you credit for not throwing out inflammatory language about "diversity" and how hip-hop represents the "underbelly" of society. With that said, use of profanity is hardly limited to hip-hop. 311 and the Offspring aren't exactly known for their family-friendly language.

I do think it was a conscious decision by the Taste of Minnesota organizer to slot the artists who may use stronger language into the later portions of the night, when the clientele will be primarily adults.

Well, if you want to stand by the rows of trash at the Taste, by all means. I'm sure you'll hear an orchestra of foil wrappers and corn dog sticks clanking against the sides of the trash cans.

I'll be listening to Atmosphere.

Do you get any food tickets with a gate ticket purchase? Didn't they do that last year?

I'm by no means an expert on the Twin Cities music scene but was pleasantly surprised to hear Atmosphere and Brother Ali on the Current. I enjoy their music and this is coming from a guy who hasn't enjoyed much rap since De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising (a long time ago). Can anyone tell me why they think Brother Ali and Atmosphere aren't even larger names on the national scene? They're known but they haven't blown up. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Check You Tube. There is concert footage from all over the country (sold out shows) and Brother Ali just toured Europe.
I really like them both!

I listened to them on youtube and was not impressed. Where are the beats? The music? The entertainment value? They are bitter, boring, cynical and need a back-up band that can play something more original then beats produced from a machine and someone should write some happpy lyrics for them.

Actually, the deal with Atmosphere is that they are a local group. They do not want to be huge. I have seen them a few times and it is always fun to see them here at home because they talk about MN. I really think to truly appreciate Atmosphere, you need to see them live in person.

Taste of MN ... all wrong! This new ownership team is extremely confused and are gonna "lose their shorts" on this one! 1st mistake, spending too much $$$ on bands. Thus , leading to the 2nd mistake of charging $30 to get through the doors! This WILL turn away a lot of people who would ordinarily go ... AND SPEND roughly $30 each (adult & children). Get people there, and they will buy the extremely overpriced food. They will NOT do both, admission and food! 3rd ... TC residents would go more than 1 day and buy additional food. THAT obviously won't happen. 4th ... this is NO LONGER a "Taste/Food" festival. This is now just a normal outdoor concert. AND many, if not most, go to only listening to the music in the background. Do not pay much attention (or $$$) to who's playing. 5th mistake ... they're trying to justify the admission $$$ by saying more "family friendly" activities. Yet, they schedule cursing hip-hop bands who tend to attract the wrong, teen and early 20-something crowd that has caused problems at hip-hop concerets in the past! They are contradicting themselves! More mature people spend their $$$ wisely, especially during this recession. They won't go. The young, hip-hop riff-raff ... they don't care! 6th ... last year, Taste of MN... PERFECT weather ... and they still couldn't make a profit???? This year, under the new format AND even just 1 day of rain.... Taste of MN doesn't have a chance! It will be no more!

That was sure a long and witless way to say you're going to listen to garbage. LOL
