Hello macho_man, Did I say I wanted to talk about some arias? Yikes. I don’t think that was me and I apologize if I gave you the impression that I knew technical aspects of what makes a great opera singer. I hope you will not be too disappointed by the fact that I know nothing of the trained voice. I actually like Bocelli’s pop side better than opera. That’s not to say that I don’t enjoy his classical and operatic side because I very much do. Like so many of Bocelli’s fans, I knew very little opera. It was his music that really introduced me to it. I fell in love with his voice the first time I heard it and everything he sang be it pop, opera, classical – whatever. There was a certain quality that touches you to the very core. It’s difficult to explain but even now, whenever I hear him sing, it takes my breath away. I tried to like opera but I mostly only like the tenor voice, whoever it might be. The soprano voice is for the most part too high and screechy for me and nearly impossible to make out any of the lyrics. I’m not thrilled with baritone either. When I think about opera I often think about what Richard Gere told Julia Roberts in the movie Pretty Woman - When you see an opera for the first time, if it moves you to tears, you will always love it. If not, you never will. You can learn to appreciate it but will never be able to learn to love it. You either do or you don’t. I guess you could say that I fit the last category – sort of. If Bocelli is singing it, I love it. If not, well then, I appreciate it :-). To be serious, though, there are several arias Bocelli sings that are among my favorites – Nessun dorma, gli occi di fata, elucevan le stele, o soave fanciulla, Lamento di Federico to name a few off the top of my head. Now to me, I think he is the very best, though I have to admit, I’ve not really listened closely to many others to compare him with and couldn’t intelligently tell you why I prefer Bocelli over anyone else, only that I do. Pavarotti, of course, was one of the greats. Many would say the greatest. I’ve listened to Corelli, another great, who I like very much. Better than Pavarotti but not as much as Bocelli. I know that these two men were at the top of Andrea’s list of greats. He knew and very much respected them both as friends and colleagues. Corelli, of course, was his mentor and maestro at one time and listening to each, I can detect a bit now and then that reminds me of Bocelli – or vice versa. Bocelli has performed several operas on stage already - La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Werther, Tosca. I did not attend any of these so don’t have first-hand knowledge of how well he did. We all know critics can be, and often are, harsher on him than necessary and it is often difficult to get an objective assessment from the fan sites. But an added, and significant, difficulty for him, I would think, would be to maneuver the stage while concentrating on singing the pieces properly. So even if his voice were gain the strength and volume, this would be quite a task and nothing short of a miracle for him to truly pull off successfully.

Spot on, Pat. Humor is one of the greatest spices of life that is so appreciated by me, as well. Part II:
Pat, as much as it could be alot of fun to hang out and chat, I dare say that my Bocelli conversations seemed to have exhausted themselves quite some time ago. I think in honesty, I enjoyed the joy of meeting the people that I did back then, even more than the subject at hand - nothing against the topic of Bocelli, mind you - but. I ran out of new ways long ago to say 'oooh and awwww' over his voice. I loved serious topics at one time in regards to the words in his book that others told me he said..... point *being* though - I never did read the book. I had anted the book at one point, but bottom line, I never read it. Sooooo, that caused some frustration (with understandable reason) for some, that I in turn would even discuss the topic of his book. And I have to admit, that clearly makes sense. Was never out to intentionally frustrate a soul in the Bocelli world or otherwise.
I can't indulge in the subject of opera, arias or classical music either. I am a very honest person and to lay the cards on the table, opera is just not my cup of tea, although as Stella elequently said, I can certainly appreciate the talent and hard work it takes. But for my music taste and pleasures, I so love music that makes me sway, dream of romantic things, or dance. I am a fanciful little thing, all about romance and swaying. Opera just doesn't take me there, hard as I tried at one time. I really gave it my all, too. I have no problem stepping out of my own personal box - but in the end, one has to be true to themselves and one's soul always (with no effort or arm twisting) takes you to where you 'want' to be. Beautifulll Italian love songs, same with Spanish songs, smooth jazz, danceable pop, thats my cup of tea. I should say coffee, come to think of it. I am not a tea girl. Well, coffee, strawberry soda, red wine, a nice cold beer (the cheap Bud Light is just fine with me) and mile.... all scrumptious.(note to self: must, must, must drink more water! grrrrr - I tend to forget. Don't like it) hahahah :-)

Well, double grrrr - now my original post (Part I)*is* showing as it originally did, so my 'opps - techincal difficulties' post above was not needed afterall. Something about this site and my computer do not seem to be getting along. I really apologize for all the confusions I am visually causing with these posts of mine this evening. I shall go find a paper bag and throw it over my head.
Anyway, I think I shall close here - Topix & my computer & me are having a struggle with each other in these last minutes. Things are appearing, dissappearing and even without that 1st sip of wine yet, my head is starting to swim. My attempts at trying to post are flying on & off this thread like a magic trick and yes, as much as I do enjoy a good laugh, its not feeling funny in this momento. LOL!
:-)))
Good evening wishes to all ~

Have no panics, a tutti.... I really am slipping out of here, LOL, before I cause one more ounce of confusion. Am laughing so hard as my posts end up saying the location on San Leandro. Well, Brad & Jennifer - a hearty ciaoooo anyway whoever you are & where ever you might be. This Topix site is really rather confusing - OR - my computer is on its way out of business any second here. Everything from A-Z is messing up in one way or another. Apologies

Now please stop hogging that bottle of wine and pass it over. ha ha have a great day! :O)

Thank you heaps, Pat. Your note was darling :-)
Hope you & your husband are having a lovely autumn play day today, too! We are having a great day - my husband started a 1 week vacation from work yesterday & after months of hands-on home renovations in every spare moment that we had, a week off of from his actual job is sheer bliss. We 'might' continue with some unfinished projects during this upcoming vacation week - OR - we might just tend to vote on making it a 'play week'. As for todays choice, we've taken the latter option. Bless us. LOL!
If I can come up with a fresh new Bocelli topic to throw out there, I'll do so if/when I can. Somewhere in time also, I've got to get caught up with emails which I am dreadfully behind on.(there goes that bag over my head again... eheh!!) So many fun things to do, so little time for them all, eh?
Sliding a glass of vino to you, Pat. Shall leave the bottle on the table should anyone else in here enjoy a glass, too.
Ciao for now... Yeah for the weekends & Vacations :-)

I had never been interested in classical music until I heard Andrea sing. He has a magnificent voice and Luciano agreed. Andrea really does sing like an angel, and I thank God for the wonderful gift of Andrea Bocelli.
