SNL: Palin plays it safe, Fey and Poehler shine (again) on SNL

Oct 19, 2008 | Posted by: CouchPotato | Full story: weblogs.baltimoresun.com

One of the most anticipated TV and pop culture appearances of the year took place on NBC Saturday when Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin visited Saturday Night Live. And producer Lorne Michaels wasted not a second in giving viewers what they tuned in for with an opening sketch featuring Tina Fey as Palin -- and Palin as herself.

Palin definitely did play it safe...but all in all she seemed like she was a good sport about it all.
Amy Poehler's rap though...amazing. If only they could've gotten Palin to do it, that would've been hilarious!

Sarah Palin is the best choice for Vice President. She is a maverick who doesn't care to put up with all that so-called knowledge that those know-it-all college snobs enjoying piling up on top of hard-working folks on Main St. The Intelligentsia and the liberal media make a big deal about her attending six different colleges throughout six different years without graduating. The thing is, us hard-working mavericks like that about Sarah. College might teach you fancy new things, but it doesn't teach common sense. So-called professors completely disregard creationism and hunting, things that every maverick knows all about! Obama is different from us mavericks. He is an elitist black guy. Joe Biden is a Catholic. Blacks and Catholics have had too much power for too long. We need change! Mavericks believe in tradition, not all that smart alec college stuff. Mavericks believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ, not in all that hippie nonsense that liberals, moderates and intellectuals love so much. I advise all those smart guys to go back to their college classrooms and leave the governing to the mavericks. Imagine a world if Al Gore had been president, and not a maverick like George W. Bush! Who would be running Iraq right now? George W. Bush, whether you like him or not, is the best thing this country has had in a long while. He saved our economy with the bail-out. Do you think John Kerry would have done the same? In two weeks, the American people should pull the lever for the mavericks and not those teacher's pets who turned in their homework!

I found SNL as extremer in political view. Palin did hold her closure to last through the show (she deserved applause), being surrounded in her enemy's backyard.

There were some positives on SNL this week.

I imagine lots of conservatives tuned in to see Palin. If they stayed for Josh Brolin's opening, they were treated to his plug for his newly released movie, "W". Complete with a cameo by Oliver Stone. "That'll rile them up!" I thought to myself when Stone asked his question from the audience.

If they made it to Weekend Update, there was a lovely Clarence Thomas reference that warmed my heart. It might have sent Dick Cheney into cardiac arrest if he saw it... But then Palin appeared and "refused " to do the pre rehersed rap about McCain, Plain, and Alaska. Amy Poehler did the rap instead, but Sarah looked very at home bopping along with Seth Meyer as part of Poehler's posse.

Bottom line, Palin did her personal "brand" some good. She was helping herself for life after November 4th, when she'll be another celebrity vying for our attention.

I thought Palin did well and kept to her principles and the integrity of her personal character.

I know you libs were hoping she would in some way be put in a situation that made her look stupid so you could later point fingers at her and say - "yeah - there's someone we want for VP - NOT. Look what she is willing to do to suck up to America."

She was in a real LOSE-LOSE situation, and from what I have seen of late coming from SNL - they should be kissing her feet - because without Palin to villify in their skits - their ratings would be in the bottom of the tank.

Not funny material at all. And I don't mean the political sketches.

missed it.

I still cannot wrap my head around staying up late to watch SNL.
I don't care if Jesus himself made a cameo.
Nothing will make that craptastic show worth watching.

Yes indeed, according to Sandra Barnhart if Governor Sarah Palin set foot in New York she would be gang raped by black men.

Not only did the scumbag Barnhart stereo blacks she denigrated victims of rape...typical self-serving dirty diaper democRat.

I too have no idea if this is sarcasm or serious? If it is sarcasm, good job and lol. If it is serious, you should seek therapy immediately. That's the funny thing about the right wing. They say so much crazy sh*t it's hard to tell who actually believes the sh*t that spews from their mouths, and who is making fun of them.

The above lowlife yellow bastard will cast a vote for a sharp dressed fraud who voted against funding US Troops while on the battlefield. Even Joe Biden advised him against it.

If Barack Obama had his way he would have denied Operation Iraqi Freedom and passed his fight with Saddam & Sons to today's little American kids who would grow up to face a much, much more costly and deadly Iraq War of the future...And if Barack Obama’s vote against the surge was followed it would have been disastrous resulting in more US Causalities with an eventual retreat and Iraq laid at the feet of terrorists…
Only a self-serving community organizer would leave the future that unorganized for their children.

Disgruntled dirty diaper democRats are stooping to throw Joe The Plumber under the bus...

1) Joe was aspiring to buy a plumbing business and the democRat media turned that into an issue about licenses. In many states Joe needs no license to work for a licensed contractor. The licensed contractor signs for Joe's work so where’s the need for more government?
2) Joe owes back taxes? That means Joe qualifies for a $350,000.00 Barney Frank/Chris Dodd Fannie May Home loan.
3) There is no way Barack Obama's Tax scheme would benefit a plumbing business. Furthermore, Barack Obama does not tell you both he and his democRat cohorts will let the Bush Tax cut expire and when that happens that’s another tax increase for Joe the Plumber.

For far too many mesmerized lemmings it's all about visualization. The reality is? It's the sharp dressed fraud vs. the broken and battered real deal.
It's the educated lawyer double talking his way through a campaign vs. a man who's ready to get the job done and not just "take a look" at measures to secure America's energy independence.
It's the man who can toss a basketball vs. the man who can land a jet fighter on an aircraft carrier.
It's about a man who made wearing the flag an issue vs. a man who fought for the flag.
It's about a man who collaborates with those who despise America vs. a man who stands up to those who despise America.
It's about a man who believes in big government vs. a man who believes in the individual.

The choice is clear…John McCain/Sarah Palin ‘08 “Country First.”
