Rajesh Khanna - Missing the Babu Mushai Days.

Rajesh Khanna - Missing the Babu Mushai Days.

Sakshi Juneja
Bollywood – strange place na. Some people put in their heart & soul and still are not able to climb the stardom ladder. And on the other hand we witness, new faces being tagged with celebrity status with their very first appearance. As it is often said "Out of sight, out of mind" - the very people who couldn't get enough of you once upon a time, today don't have few minutes to spare to you. Mind you, this not only happens to be the story of one-time actors but sadly, some of yesteryear's superstars as well.

I mean not everyone can boast of a filmy career graph as Amitabh Bachchan or be blessed with strong family support as Dharmendra paaji or be the head of India's leading Tele-Production house, all thanks to his enterprising daughter. Today many of these past idols either earn a living by doing cameo roles in films/television shows or work behind the scenes. Some have completely given up the glamour business, while placing more importance on the family-time, which they couldn’t during their hay days.

And then you read about legendary megastars, someone like Rajesh Khanna and you can't help but wonder what a real bitch life can be. I remember my mum fondly talking about those Rajesh Khanna frenzy days - how she and her gals bunked classes to watch his films, just his smile would melt the hearts of thousands of women, his pairing with actress Mumtaz was a sure-hit formula, his off-beat dancing style and above all his greatest performance in the film, Anand.

But those babu mushai days are long gone now. Today this very actor lives nothing but a pitiful life. He may be financially sound but money surely cant substitute for love, family or bring back those days of glory. Even though he is still married to actress Dimple Kapadia, they have been living separately since early 80s. Both their daughters are happily married and immersed in their professional lives. And that leaves him with nothing but loneliness and its disturbing side effects.

Recently Mumbai Mirror reported this incident –

The yesteryear superstar Rajesh Khanna was not at his best of behavior on Saturday evening at the launch of an entertainment company. A lady journalist who went up to the actor to exchange greetings and ask for his phone number was left perplexed when she was greeted with "46-36-46". An eyewitness who was present there says, "The lady seemed quite surprised at what the romantic hero of the '70s was hinting at. He probably saw her expression and told her that it is a vital statistics of an average Italian woman. The lady didn't know what had hit the actor." Apparently, Khanna was pre-occupied with vital statistics of his female colleagues during one of his outdoors last year.
Couple of months back there was another write-up over an incident where drunken Rajesh Khanna was nearly beaten by a man for whistling at his girlfriend near some cafe in Bandra. I think it was published in Mid-Day.

Looking at his sorry state, the first word that comes to mind is 'Ironic'. Imagine living thru the extreme highs and lows in one life time. Many of us are envious of the stature achieved by these famous faces and all the perks that come along with celebrity-hood. But what about its downside? I for one wouldn't wish it even for my enemies.

Very disappointing if these incidences are true.

Wow...

"I mean not everyone can boast of a filmy career graph as Amitabh Bachchan..."

Now...that is another "beyond all norms" type of an article with focus on the supposably sex maniac Rajesh Khanna.

Sanjayji,

This is a mirror image of the airport story that I told you earlier...where Rajesh Khanna was reported to introduce himself as "Hi!, I am Rajesh Khanna"?

See........ This kind of an article attack him bluntly in evident yet sharply with purpose...It almost negates all the earlier positive and progressive news and moves that was that are just about to embark by and happen to Rajesh Khanna. This is the repeating of occurrences as in the late '70s

Tell me please. What is the purpose of this old stories being flash back by the news again? Why???

But Radzi,
These are supposed to be the latest incidences though of old kinds as you rightly said.
It may not be fair to believe that every thing written in this article is false.
Since news are being published in newspapers as well openly, what can be said.
Even , if we wish to give Kaka benefit of doubt that because of his comeback news, people are publishing these news with jealousy, he should take care of his image himself and avoid indulging in inappropriate things.
This is really disturbing.

His big mistake was to marry dimple who was and is an actress- and the meaning of that word is known to anyone who understands anything about what it takes for a girl to wear make up in the film world. that was his khallas , as the arabs say. a stupid stupid move that he is paying for with his loneliness and peace of mind today.

But what could be the reason for such a behaviour in public Anaad?
Whether he wants to show his dominance or what?

I have already written to the writer directly that why to publish such negative impression articles. Why the recent Saturday Party given by Dheeraj has not been mentioned in her article, where Kaka said that his two daughters and son in laws are ready to gift him on his coming birthday a renovated Aashirwaad and Kaka is never out of sight and out of mind. Instead, he is always in our mind and heart, so that this type of forum is full of his loyal fans day by day.

Mr.Mintoo:
You have done a good thing by writing to the writer that reporting should be fair and citing positives as well.
But the question remains that why Kaka is required to indulge in these sort of activities if he is really serious about his image and thinking to make it a big yet once again.
Since film personalities/ cricketers are followed very closely in India, it is unlikely to expect masses to deal with the personality part seperately and actor part seperately.
Somewhere down the line , it gives a bad taste to his fans.

It is even worst to believe any of this is true. There is no evident just mere stupid testimony of many unknown persons. Pure slanders!

Giving benefit of a doubt, Rajesh Khanna is CLEAN!

Now worst case was Amit and the stealing of farmer's land. That was a clear court case. Nobody here went to court to sue Rajesh Khanna on the womanizer stuff? Even his court case tax issue was proven false.

An article from the New York Times on Mike Gundy, the Oklahoma State University football coach who scolded the media for one of their LIES about one of his players.
October 19, 2007
Coach’s Tirade a Boon for Oklahoma State
By THAYER EVANS
STILLWATER, Okla., Oct. 17 — Nearly a month after Oklahoma State Coach Mike Gundy’s postgame tirade against an Oklahoma newspaper columnist became national news, the repercussions from his explosion were still evident in this sleepy town of 41,320.
At Eskimo Joe’s, a restaurant and campus hot spot, Oklahoma State students yell “I’m a man! I’m 40!” while watching football games at the bar, a bartender, Adam Bivins, said.
After the Cowboys’ comeback victory at home against Texas Tech on Sept. 22, the 40-year-old Gundy uttered that now-familiar response during his 3-minute-20-second rant in reaction to an article that The Oklahoman sports columnist Jenni Carlson wrote about the benched sophomore quarterback Bobby Reid.
Carlson wrote about why Reid might have lost his starting job, suggesting that coaches were unhappy with his attitude and questioning his willingness to play through injuries. She said that after the previous week’s game, Reid was fed his boxed meal by his mother in the parking lot.
Gundy called the column “fiction” and argued that Carlson should have been critical of him instead of Reid, whom he called “a good kid.”
Gundy, a third-year coach, ended his outburst by saying the article made him “want to puke.” Carlson, who in an e-mail message said that her editors would not let her be interviewed about the incident, has previously stated that she stood by her column.
“We’re a little proud of it,” Bivins, 24, a student at Oklahoma State, said of Gundy’s response.“He was willing to stand up for one of his players.”
The incident was one of YouTube’s most-watched videos last month and has been spoofed by a Norman, Okla., car dealership in a television commercial.
It led to a Web site called
mikegundyismadatyou.com , which features e-cards from his tirade, prompted an Australian magazine to call it “American football brain explosion” and inspired wildly popular “I’m a man! I’m 40!” T-shirts.“It’s kind of a cult thing around here,” said Chris Kinman, 22, an education major.
Gundy has seemingly benefited on and off the field. Since the incident, Oklahoma State (4-3, 2-1 Big 12) is 2-1, including the Cowboys’ first victory at Nebraska since 1960.
Gundy, a quarterback at Oklahoma State from 1986-89, is now more recognizable nationally, according to marketing experts, and recruits say his defense of Reid makes them more interested in playing for him. Gundy said he was surprised at the attention that the incident sparked, but he insisted he had no regrets.
“Over a period of time, it should make an impact on our program in a positive way,” he said in an e-mail message sent through a university spokesman.

continue.....

Jordan Bazant, a partner of The Agency Sports Management, said Gundy’s response was already paying off for him from a marketing perspective.
“It’s ultimately going to come down to performance on the field, but people that saw that saw an honest person,” Bazant said in a telephone interview.
He added:“It was really an honest outburst. That’s what people are attracted to. They want to be associated with someone that they view has the same values.”
Bazant said he could not estimate the value in advertising dollars that Gundy received.
“It’s millions upon millions of dollars,” he said.“It would be impossible to get that. You couldn’t even buy that much. You really couldn’t even from a practical standpoint.”
Cyrus Gray, a senior at DeSoto High School and the top uncommitted tailback in Texas, said Gundy’s response to Carlson made Oklahoma State more appealing.
Having met Gundy this summer during an unofficial visit to the university, Gray said he was not surprised by Gundy’s loyalty to Reid.
“I like that in a coach,” he said in a telephone interview.“He stood up for his players. He cares for them and not just himself.”
At Dallas Skyline High School, the senior linebacker Alfred Dupree, one of Oklahoma State’s top committed recruits, said he was impressed with Gundy.
“He really goes to bat for his players,” Dupree said.“He’s a real sensitive guy.”
The former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer said he understood Gundy’s actions, but said he should have been more composed.
“I would have had the same points to talk about,” Switzer said in a telephone interview.“I would have said them in my way and I wouldn’t have lost my composure. That’s what he did. He was too many decibels up there.”
Gundy said he never had any intention of raising his voice. He said he had received numerous letters from other coaches in support of his actions.
“I got louder as the rant went on because it continued to go through my mind that this player had been attacked through the media and that his name and face had been smeared all over the paper on a game day, and that really disturbed me,” Gundy said.
Kevin Klintworth, the Oklahoma State director of athletic media relations, said that less than 5 percent of the 3,000 e-mail messages the athletic department received about Gundy were negative.
“It was just so overwhelming,” Klintworth said in a telephone interview.“I think some of the people weren’t so much supportive of Mike as they were in support of someone standing up to the media a little bit.”

Radzi,
You may be right partially but insisting that everything written is false may not be correct.
In that case either some statement should come from Kaka side or he should sue the writer.I am unable to understand that
Why are you trying to bring Amit's issue over here? Is it a justification that if Amit does some wrong things then it automatically gives right to Kaka to do some more.Wrong thing remains wrong , no matter who does it.And we should not get happiness that some one else is also involved in some other wrong things.
It does not seem to be a fair argument at least to me Radzi.

Babu mushai, good forum---unfortunately these types of roles and days are impossible.
Its almost like asking Dharmendra and Amitabh to do Sholay again.
Everthing had time and place. For RK him time was around the 70s.
Its almost like us general public--we all have had times when things went for us and other times the fate is not with us.

Let him do army major, lawyer, good/bad politician, barber, coolie etc type of roles and be a dad for some hero or heroin.

He became a superstar at the time when Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, Dharmendra etc were around in good bit of acting.....that was the time of heavy competetion when it was also difficult in those days to get a chance into acting. He did well and surprised everyone and I feel he will do well again. Let there be more competetion and so the asking prices by actors like Amitabh etc will come down a bit.

It will be nice to see these high earners place some money back into the system to help the needy. Much more is needed in those sections. After all, the Indian public brought them up and gave them the fame.

Dear Ashu,

That was a very carelessly written article.

The BOTTOM LINE of the article is what written as below:

"And that leaves him with nothing but loneliness and its disturbing side effects."

The collection of events to verify such claim are....:

1. Mumbai Mirror article.

Recently....??????
How recent was it published? What date? What is the date of the incident that was reported? Who was the female reporter that ask him the number?

...There were no specific data!

Why would a lady ask for his personal number? She was the one that chased him, not him chasing her? It contradict the earlier statement written ..."today don't have few minutes to spare to you."? Rajesh Khanna do not want to responce to the media...and they still are chasing him.

Please note that when he visited the golden temples, people waited to hours to storm him....
...Now Rajesh is alone???????? Lonely????? those are real data...people still adore him, chase him. That is why he keep his number to himself. Yeah...if you'd ask me. I'll too would say "34-24-34."

Now who had harassed who? This half baked story will surely sided the media.

The 2nd evident...

2. May be a report from Mid-Day.

Again for a strong attacking report, there was no concrete data again. Not sure of the reference. Again NO exact date...(a couple of month ago?)...Incident where Kakaji was almost beaten by a boyfriend ....."I think it was published in Mid-Day."......What???? "I THINK???" What kind of a report is that?

If this is a engineering or a scientific report. It will be thrown out off the window. There is NO DATA! There is no direct reference. Very vague! but sharply attacking Anand (not Babu Moshai).

And the picture too was from "AMAR PREM"??? and not of Babu Moshai?
Poor poor article. Third world paper. or is it a tabloid?

The media is a TOOL.
