I'm married to someone whose maiden name is Speer. It seems that she may be related to Albert Speer. Members of her family seem to be very sensitive about the subject, which has piqued my interest. For what I can gather, my wife's great grandfather might have been Albert Speer's uncle, his father's brother. Does anyone have any information on the names of the siblings of Albert Friedrich Speer ( Albert the Nazi's father)?

This is quite an old query, but hopefully you're still around. I'm writing my PhD on Albert Speer. I may have some material on his family that would be of possible interest. Also, fyi for your wife, Speer's father was not a Nazi (although Albert's mother joined the party before her son did), and the first time Speer the father met Hitler he had quite a negative reaction, did not like the Fuehrer at all. Even Speer's mother had a less than positive reaction toward Hitler when she finally met him. The Speer family since Albert have been slowly more open about their lives, becoming successful in their own careers, and Speer's daughter, Hilde, became a Green politician, and was given an award by a Jewish foundation for her work in aiding Jewish women since the war. Albert Speer was an interesting man, and - yes - a Nazi criminal. But to paint the rest of the family for the crimes of one man is unjust, and unwarranted.

And, by complete coincidence, my partner, who I met well after I began my PhD on Speer, also shares that particular name. I doubt there's any close connection to Albert, as his family apparently originated in Dresden, where they worked in the porcelain industry. Speer is a common enough German name - like Jones in Wales or Smith in the States.

On a slightly related note, would your wife's family be aware that Hitler's nephew, also surnamed Hitler, actually joined the American Army and fought against the Nazis? Last names mean nothing - it's the person who owns them that matters.

Anyway, on the off chance you do get this message, I'd be happy to correspond and give you what information I have on Albert's predecessors.

Cheers

Thanks for your response. I would like to hear from you. According to my wife, her uncle had travelled to Germany and supposedly established, to his satisfaction, the relationship. My email address is eyedocjim@roadrunner.com. Thanks

My wife's great grandfather was Dewey Speer which we believe was a cousin of Albert Speer according to her family. I have not personally confirmed this or even if Albert Speer had a cousin named Dewey. I'm not if you have any genealogy on Albert would be interesting to know.

Thanks

My father is Charles Henry Speer. Some how, I am told that Albert Speer is either my great, great uncle or grandfather. I do remember having an uncle name Albert Speer when i was younger, but he passed when i was in the 5 to 8 year range. He resided in Uniontown, Kansas. I reside in Redfield, Kansas. I remember Albert very little, but do remember him. I am very interested in finding out how I am related to Hitler's Architect, Albert Speer. If you can please help me out with this, I would be greatly pleased. My e-mail is: dspeer@peerlessproducts.com
Please help if possible. Thanks. Dennis Speer

Ernst married a lady named Irmgard, and they had children who would be adults themselves by now. Arnold I believe became a doctor. He and his brother, Albert, and sister, Hilde, were interviewed for German docu-drama called 'Speer und er', which I think you might be able to find with English subtitles under the title 'Speer and Hitler: the Devil's Architect.' As far as I'm aware, all the Speer children are still alive and well, are quite private about their lives (as might be expected) and living in Heidelberg, I think. His younger daughter, Margret, wrote a small autobiographical book called (translated from the German)'Aren't you Speer's Daughter?' which I don't believe has been published in English, but was a fascinating read. All the Speer children seem to have turned out not only nice people, but exceptionally good people - like quite a lot of the children of Nazi criminals, oddly enough. I wish them all well, personally.

INTERESTING! If anyone knows the genealogy of Albert Speer, I'd appreciate a link to that info. I thought Speer was a common German surname but I've got a brother & a niece who somehow think we're related to the infamous Nazi. I'd like to learn the truth. Thanks!

I don't know if there's an internet link to Albert Speer's genealogy - I know it because I've done a lot of research on him and have a tonne of research books. Speer is also a very common English name and, as it turns out after a bit of research on my part, my own partner who has that surname is descended from English potters living in Staffordshire. They may have been descended themselves from immigrants from Germany much earlier on, but any connection between my partner and Albert Speer the Nazi criminal is tenuous at best, and quite well diluted by the time his great-grandfather immigrated from Staffordshire to New Zealand.

Chances are very slight you or your brother are related to that particular branch of Speers, but the only way to know for certain is to do a bit of genealogical hunting - which can be quite fun as well as illuminating. There are plenty of websites to get you started on that road.:)

My great grandfather is also Dewey Speer. According to my grandfather, Dewey and Albert are related, as am I. I'd be interested to see further evidence or genealogy.

Hey there x) I don't think he is your uncle unless if you're around his kid's age (but anything could happen where you don't have to be I suppose):) my uncle, grandfather, greatgrandfather were all named Albert Speer, so I was wondering if anyone may know if I am apart of the family?(I am German by the way) I just would like to know x)
