"Analysts said Al Jazeera would have to overcome a significant image problem in the United States, where many viewers remember its stridently anti-war reporting of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan ...

"'There's a fair amount of paranoia when it comes to Al Jazeera,' said Robert Thompson, professor of TV and popular culture at Syracuse University."

More claims of islamophobia from media elitists, but if no one was watching Currebnt TV, who will be watching Al-J?

"'Al Jazeera has deeper pockets. The downside is the politics. People in America associate Al Jazeera with the Muslim world or the Arab world or the Islam world and they have problems with that ...'"

People in America have "problems" with terrorist apologists.

BTW, liberal Al Gore sold out to Al-J just before tax hikes were due to kick-in!

Glenn Beck's Blaze Media approached the struggling cable news network last year, the Wall Street Journal reports, but was rebuffed because "the legacy of who the network goes to is important to us and we are sensitive to networks not aligned with our point of view."

Instead, Gore went with the Emir of Qatar-funded Arab news channel Al-Jazeera.

Al-Jazeera has been criticized for having a pro-Islamist bent, and accused of working with members of Al Qaeda. One of its journalists was arrested in Israel in 2011 on suspicion of being an agent of the Palestinian group Hamas. Dave Marash, a former "Nightline" reporter who worked for Al-Jazeera in Washington, said he left the network in 2008 in part because he sensed an anti-American bias there.

The network is subsidized by the ruling family of oil rich Qatar, which some critics have said smacks of hypocrisy, given Gore's beliefs that global warming is due in large part to mankind's reliance on fossil fuels.(What about Global Warming, Al?)

Gore won the Oscar in 2006 for his documentary film about global warming, "An Inconvenient Truth."

Gore netted $100 million with his 20 percent stake in Current TV when it was sold for a reported $500 million on Wednesday.

Al-Jazeera plans to euthanize the seven-year-old network and turn it into Al-Jazeera America by adding five to 10 new U.S. bureaus beyond the five it has now. More than half of its content will be U.S. news, and the network will have its headquarters in New York, according to a rep.
Emails to Glenn Beck's rep were not immediately returned.

Al Jazeera is good for a bit of entertainment value. Although nothing can crack me up and anger me at the same time as much as RT news does.

Watch it for blatant Russian government propaganda. It gives a clue into their warped little minds.

After the sale, Gore said Current TV and Al-J shared the same values!

But there weren't enough viewers watching Current TV to begin with, which is why Gore unloaded it.

Al Jazeera, BBC, CNN, France 24 and Press TV are usually on my telly.

Joey, believe me when I tell you Aljazeera is the best! Aljazeera is liked by people but hated by Western, Arab and African governments because it doesn't shy away from telling it like it is. Apart from their hard-hitting interview and impartial news, they have many very interesting and award-winning shows like the Stream, Empire, Witness and many more. This is a great opportunity for Americans who are interested in real talk.

I don't think AJ is impartial at all, but it is worthwhile seeing their point of view.

Am tired of the way US news mixes serious stories with crazy ones. Back in the day if you wanted stories about celebrities and roach eating contests, you had to buy a special trashy mag, like True Confessions.

Once when Haiti was in the news, AJ did some research on why it is a mess, I don't think US channels have done that, at least not recently. They would rather talk about Lindsey Lohan.

The problem with you is that you only want to hear what you want to hear. I don't agree with the perspective of CNN's reports but I still watch it because it helps me to see things from a different angle.

BTW, many of the negative news coming out of the Middle East is usually first and most of the time exclusively reported on AlJazeera. Since you are so keen on the negative, you could benefit a lot from Aljazeera by copying and pasting what they report.

Did we ever find out why Al Jazeera Gore and his wife divorced?? If George and Laura had gotten a divorce it would still be front page news, we would know every detail.
