There are 124 comments on the International Business Times story from Jul 10, 2011, titled Honor Killings: The Scourge of Turkey. In it, International Business Times reports that:

Honor killings refer to the murder of people who have supposedly committed some act deemed to be a violation of honor.

Such acts may include marrying someone regarded as “unsuitable,” sex before marriage, demanding a divorce, a woman (married or unmarried) being raped, or even things as mundane and innocent as calling a radio station to ask for a song to be played on air, a girl seen talking to a boy ...

Well I just say as it is, I mean, when in the whole history of mankind was this normal? As for honor killings, how easy and convenient to jump on the "punching-ball" that is still politically correct to insult. Look at Arpaslan's posts, it's in the Christian Bible, so let's be serious, Christians and Jews love to point the finger at Muslims, but if they bothered to read the Koran, there is NO SUCH mention in there!!!! Of course, it's an ancient Hamito-Semitic tribal thing, to save "wajh" BECAUSE there were no flipping nations back then, only tribes and women were seen as property (hello, England, 1800's they were "chattel" so European Christians weren't any different). Of course the ird of the woman was important because without it, the man saw his property as damaged, his tribe as betrayed, himself as dishonored, men didn't have a whole lot of other possessions or symbols of honor in desert lands. So, it's in the Bible, also written by Semites of the desert BUT we ignore it, same as we like to politely ignore that Jesus was probably a brown Palestinian as should all those Israeli settlers be if they are REALLY from that region. As for Muslims being out to kill non-believers, in the Bible's Book of Revelations it says to cast out out the nonbelievers to burn as well as all heretics and witches, meaning clearly to destroy those who don't follow the Old and New Testament. So before people condemn others' religions, they need to read THEIR fcuken books and shut up. Do you know I don't know anyone else who thinks like me? Makes me mad you know?

No!, I think like you I just don't have enough time to read enough books and articles so I can use to support my views with out being biased I know people who think like you my Irish Catholic lecturer is an open minded respectful person as you are, many of the people who think like you are not brave to stand out because they are subconciously aware of the verbal abuses they will recieve from mainstream monkey see monkey do simpletons.

Simge what makes you different from the rest is you have guts to use your freedom of speech in what you believe is right. Others don't really have their own opinions they they just mindlessly follow thier predecessors nor do they have the decency to respect others views. I believe your stubborness is enough for you to overcome all your weaknesses, good luck.

For the rest of you Monkey see monkey do simpleton beings, listen to an academic for once before you draw pathetic conclusions:

Thank you, and I wish other people would be more like Lesley but good luck getting anyone to listen to an intelligent person or to have the intellectual level to ACTUALLY understand this woman's insight and what she accomplished. Look at poor Obama, the man had a Muslim grandad (his dad was an atheist) and his mom was Irish Catholic but became agnostic. Now, he has a name like Hussein and brown skin and BOOM, terrorist, etc. Ridiculous!! In fact, most recently, he laughed at the idea that his mom plotted with the Muslims at 17 years old!!! Yeah, a regular American high-school graduate who simply fell in love in the charming African who she said reminded her of Harry Belafonte...wow, how unusual for a young girls to fall in love with a man who reminds her of a famous singer) plotted with Muslims....you know what he calls people who make this allegation? "Barking circus clowns" and intelligent people who really want to make a difference in the world, help people and encourage dialogue and understanding and respect have no time for such nonsense.

So you choose to sit on the fence yet still manage to cherry pick the passages you like and discount the ones you dont.
Iam sure there is a name for people like you, just remember, its people that let down what was revealed by the one God, not the torah, gospel or koran.
Seek truth, wherever it may be...dont stop with just being an agnostic, your nearly there...

I dont cherry pick anything.I can hardly remember that much of the bible snatches here and there but's that about it.I am agnostic becausei cant proove thee is a god or isnt it's a matter of faith i guess i dont have much i prefer scientific fact to something that cant be prooved but im still open to the possibility that god exists i might find out one day.And i mmake my decsions on relegon on what i do see and hear i have not made up my mind by saying well i like this passage so ill use that one to proove my point everything i think is based on what i think not what cathlocism has told me to think i dont hide behind a relegion and then justify atrococties by saying it's anyones will i belive thats muslims who attribute all thee evil actions of being the will of allah.
