Sorry, Chris, this was not a 4 star production for me. I admired many things about it, but the play itself is so talky and didactic that I could never fully enter its world. The American family at the center are ciphers, with pointless backstory thrown in...to what end?(I'm talking about the recent death of Jack's first wife--why is it there?). In terms of performances, I did have "a star is born" reaction to Christoph Horton Abiel, particularly in his scenes with Rob Fagin (who is, however, not quite convincingly 17). Christoph's character, Gerard, embodies the horrific tensions of Rwanda without lecturing about them.
