Wow. A positive story - about how Columbus and the world CATHOLIC CHURCH helped to change this persons life and the lives of all those she touches and teaches.

"She graduated from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and taught primary and high school in her home district, where she was the only teacher from her Maasai tribe."

A very inspiring story! It's great that she is going home to teach others...it takes a very special person to 'pay it forward.' Best of luck!

Congratulations on your degree! You obtained a very prestigious scholarship and sacrificed yourself by staying away from your family until you finished your degree. You are a great testimony that everything is possible if you put the hard work.

Don't listen to the haters. This country will be better with more people like you than those other people ;)

GO BUCKS!

Ya, it's called student loans. I wish ppl woud stop looking for hand outs and take the intitative to control their own lives. I have to pay back $31,000 for my education and I don't cry about it one bit.

Maybe little Johnny in Heath or Marquis in Columbus are just too dumb to qualify for the scholarship or maybe they are like a lot of Americans and squander the opportunities they receive just by being born here. Either way, if those kids don't go to college it's no one's fault but their own.

Johnathan,

I challenge you to name one person who was denied a college education/finance opportunity as a result of this woman.

Also, I encourage you to be specific and not to speak in vague generalities. I wouldn't want to have to call you out later for making unverifiable assertions.

Way to go Esther Solonka. Your story is inspiring to say the least. This story will go a loooooong way, because now many girls will understand that anything is possible with your kind of determination. The Ford foundation made the right choice to be part of this amazing story!

I still wonder if she is legal. Her going back home probably answers that.
Obsessing about her legal/illegal status only portrays your level of ignorance. Get educated, so atleast you can figure out that OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY offers no admission to anyone who is illegally in this country. It's because of people like you that the rest of the world thinks the average American is damn! You are an embaracement to this society to say the least!

Don't be such a moron, please...no doubt she was here on a student visa. If you'd gone to college yourself, you might know how that works.

Bravo, Esther, well done! Best of luck in future.
