This message is to all gay men and lesbians please get out there and purchase a gun or rifle to defend yourselves from criminals and anti gay thugs out there. Its the only way the police will not protect you , they cannot be everywhere all the time so you must organize and arm yourselves into gun clubs check out gun websites and laws in your state and take a role in self defense or you will end up beaten to death. We must not depend on the state self defense is on the order of the day.

WWII showed us, that discrimination is inexcusable. If people are getting killed/injured because of their sexual orientation, then Im asking myself, can we speak here about freedom? Im not lesbian, but I stand 100% behind the human rights.

I understand what you are saying but it becomes quite complicated when defending yourself. I do own firearms for self defense but I live in Minnesota which MN. is a state where defending yourself from a violent criminal attack is illegal even in your our home and you can go to prison for defending yourself or any family members from a violent attacker. There are still many states and local governments that forbid self defense to preserve your own life.

That does not mean I will not defend myself or family from attack, I will without though. I'm know it will end up costing me thousands in legal fees to stay out of prison but I believe my life and the lives of my family are worth it. I will agree that those that are ok with guns having one for self defense but not everyone is comfortable around firearms. I grew up with brothers who hunt so I have always been around firearms from a very young age and have been well trained in firearm use by professionals.

The greatest threat to the LGBT community had not been mentioned in this article. Our greatest threat has always been religion. As long as religion keeps it in the minds of the public that its ok to hate LGBT people because god hates us then in the minds of many violence against us is ok. By promoting god hates all LGBT people this will give even non christians the green light to commit violence against the LGBT people.

I know there are many straight christians who support LGBT equality but they do not confront their religious leaders about the hate they promote. I believe one of the best ways to force religions in America to stop their promotion of hate in the name of their god is to take away what they prize most, "their money". All LGBT and non LGBT christians who want this religious hate to end make it known to your churches that you will no longer be giving them money as long as they promote hate.

All anti-gay sentiment is religion-driven.

The "good book" says that we are "abominations" (you know, just as evil a crime as eating oysters) and that we "shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

This is the call for violence, directly FROM religion. This is what the bible teaches, and it is passed pastor to laity, trusted as the word of god. It is passed from parent to child, lessons on who is acceptible to victimize.

It will continue until SANE people stand up and say "My religion is WRONG about this!" and refuse to teach it any further. They must refuse to endorse this pointless hatred, and shun those who participate.

If you are attempting to defend religion you cant'. Religion shapes societies and not one religious society has ever existed without murder, hate or oppression of an innocent minority. What makes religion so dangerous is that the god of religion is man.

NO ONE has to fight. It's time for religious people to put DOWN this battle. They are inventing their OWN enemies. We are not fighting for our rights just because we enjoy frustrating Christians. We fight because we DESERVE these rights. There is only a battle because religious people feel compelled to stand in our way, blocking justice and impeding equality. This is not their fight, they are not called to oppose us, but if they feel they must, then we will fight BACK.

Yep, and those atheistic societies have done so well. Just ask all of those millions and millions of victims of Stalin and Mao under the atheistic Communist systems. Mao and Stalin both outdid Hitler, who was another atheist, when it came to killing minorities or those that were not in full support of the existing regime.

Blaming religion is such an oversimplification. These thugs are not religious, maybe the street culture they come from has an anti-gay streak running through it, why don't you address that.

Absolutely correct. It has in large measure to do with talibangelicalism, a subset of "religion." A big subset.

The reason those societies were so violent and destructive was because they were JUST LIKE religions. They were forced to idolize a single person in an absolutist authoritarian position, forbidden from questioning or doubting. Dogma was put ahead of reason, and preserving the "existing regime" was more important than the needs of the people.

A "new atheist" movement is happening, one that respects personal freedom, and which looks to our Constitution for guidance and governance, rather than any dictators who claim authoritarianism from ANY source (themselves OR the supernatural).

As for Hitler, here are some quotes of his that show just how atheist he was (all from Mein Kampf):

"I believe today that my conduct is in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator."

"Even today I am not ashamed to say that, overpowered by stormy enthusiasm, I fell down on my knees and thanked Heaven from an overflowing heart for granting me the good fortune of being permitted to live at this time."

"What we have to fight for is the necessary security for the existence and increase of our race and people, the subsistence of its children and the maintenance of our racial stock unmixed, the freedom and independence of the Fatherland; so that our people may be enabled to fulfill the mission assigned to it by the Creator."

It COMES from religion, that's me addressing it. Where did the street thugs learn it? From their parents. Where did THEY learn it? From the "good" book. Show me ANOTHER book, outside of religion, that says to kill gay people, and I'll consider that there's another source.

That's odd - the religious people think it's time for you to put down this battle. I'm not gay or religious so it's kinda funny like watching Jews & Arabs fight over a silly piece of real estate.

Kill gay people... really. Where exactly did Jesus say to kill gay people, because that is the only source for any true Christian.

I see your real secularist/atheistic goals. I also know that I have seen the secularist movement in Europe attacking religion in the same way that you say religion attacks gays. Atheism is a belief system like any other and has its own prejudices, as you are demonstrating by having your own prejudice against anyone of faith and lumping the whole group together. How about I lump together all of the gay community based on the actions of a few... if it is ok for you to do, I don't see a problem with me doing it in return.

Look in a mirror, you are as guilty of your own prejudices as you are accusing others of ... scary, isn't it?

Except "marriage" isn't anyone's "real estate". It belongs to everyone. Christians don't own it, regardless of what claims they make. It won't run out, like land, given away to X amount of people. There's plenty to go around. It can't be torn down in favor of new development; no one's marriage will be destroyed if I marry my partner.

The land disputes in the middle east are over finite pieces of property that can only be owned by finite numbers of people. Marriage is infinite and bottomless, able to serve couple after couple after couple without ever emptying. Religious people who seek to withhold it from others are simply being greedy and selfish.

Technically, Jesus never said SQUAT about homosexuality. One would think that, since it is supposedly SUCH an important subject, he might've addressed it at least ONCE.

The bible, on the other hand, DOES call for the death of gay people. Leviticus 20:13: "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Is there ANOTHER interpretation of PUT TO DEATH that I'm not aware of?

MANY Christians will tell you that since god is Jesus, and god wrote the bible, then Jesus said everything in it. So did he call for the murder of gay people or not?

Why is everything a battle of words between "Christian A" and "Christian B"? Why do I have to waste my time with ONE explanation of god, the universe and everything from ONE Christian, only to turn around and get an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT explanation from ANOTHER Christian? There's only ONE bible, so why are there so MANY interpretations? Why don't all Christians agree on what scripture says? Why can't Christians get their STORY straight? Why does god have so many contradictory spokespeople?

Oh, like beating them to death in the street? No, I don't think that's happening.

Sure, and bald is a hair color, and not playing baseball is a sport. Atheism is an absence of belief in gods, nothing more or less.
Fed up wrote:

Prejudices are fed by our experiences. Atheism tells us nothing about how to feel towards people of faith. Their BEHAVIOR is what influences MY feelings toward them. You're damned right I have prejudices against people who claim that I'm wicked and immoral because I don't love who they approve. I have prejudices against people who think it's fine and dandy to victimize gays, either physically, psychologically, or through social ostracization. I have prejudices against people who make excuses for this behavior by expecting me to believe that this is what the gods want. I have prejudices against people who claim flat-out that the bible doesn't say what it DOES. If you don't see where the bible calls for the outright MURDER of gay people, then you haven't read it enough (but don't start now).
Fed up wrote:

Is that how you justify your position? "If YOU do it, it's ok for ME to do it!"? THIS is the moral high ground that religion claims? Has this attitude replaced "turn the other cheek"?

Insofar as gay rights go, I do NOT lump all religious people together. I know that there are MANY religious people who fight for gay rights. There are MANY who believe it is not their place to dictate my life. And there are many who don't even believe that god thinks it's a sin.

My prejudice HERE lies in the fact that NONE of them have any solid EVIDENCE about what their gods want, they're all just making it up. If you have religious beliefs, you do so WITHOUT evidence, without ANY supporting proof, without ANY good reason. It's done out of cultural assimilation and fear. People should QUESTION their beliefs, and see if they make ANY sense, or any more sense than any OTHER religion. Mythology just isn't compelling enough for me to label other people as "hateable".
