The point of forum topix is to put one's opinions "out there" but it is equally to have discourse occur between/amongst the people who participate.

I have no issue with you offering an opinion about the subjet but you aren't Angela and it needn't have bothered you at all.

What if there is someone out there who is reading this and has been considering joining a fundamentalist Christian Church. How would answer that person.Would you just tell them that they are dumb?

Abortion is very sad when it is a situation like in that story, but if you are a woman who has been raped, you wouldnt want to have that baby. everytime he/she asked about his dad, your memory would take you back to when you were abused

Josh, my sentiments exactly and they are magnified a thousand times when the victim is,say, thirteen. I am at a loss as to why the responses to that seem to come from people who cannot take ten minutes to explain how/why God would see the possible end of a young girl's emotional life ( raped and then forced to carry the baby of their rapist)as less significant than that of a fetal life.

It seems as if there is every pressure under the sun for girls and women to remain chaste until marriage because God wants it that way. So some make a real effort.

If they are raped they already feel 'dirty'/shamed and unclean in the eyes of the Lord through no fault of their own.

Then they are expected to carry what probably feels like a demon seed.

They might commit suicide at this point and then they know they will be damned by the church for that. I guess they just believe that they are damned anyway or that it will be easier to face God than 'people'.

I just want someone like Angela or the woman who called me dumb to not throw anything less than an explanation. It is getting to the point where I feel as people who believe that these are God's directions do not feel his love or compassion. They operate on one or two lines in a book which is not necessarily Christian. Are there no pastors out there?

i hate abortion, im totally against it. this was amazing, i kniw there are reasons why ppl have abortion, but if its just because you dont want a kid, then dont have sex, or get your tubes tied, if anything adoption is always there.

i was raped. every night i stayed up crying wondering what if i was pregnant. what would i do. i realized i still would keep the baby, i was 15 at the time, and i did not get pregnant. but you cant punish a child for a dumb guys mistake, every baby should have a chance to live.

You might have some really good supports in your life, you sound strong and sound. What you aren't factoring in is that not all people have what they need to make a decision to keep the child of someone who has made them look dirty and shameful to many people in society.

I can hear people seeing a pregnant thirteen year old and saying to someone that they are with " That kid can't be more than thirteen, where are the parents, these kids just have no morals,etc". How many hurtful things can a 13 year old bear. Her friends mothers may not want their daughters to hang around with her because they don't know what to believe about the pregnancy. They only know they don't want their daughters coming home like that.

Some parents will not necessarily blame their 13 or 14 year old daughter but they will make comments about things like,"Don't expect me to buy baby furniture or clothes, I have already raised my kids." or " It might not be your fault that you are pregnant but it has ruined this family".

Is it alright to punish a child of 13 for what a guy did ( I won't say mistake, that is nicey , nicey - not real)

You are a brave young woman and it sounds as if you have handled the rape as well as many twice your age. You also have compassion and I hope that you will always be so disposed.

It isn't fair though to think that everyone is you, or, that everyone's situation is the same as yours. You are old enough to see that, that is not true. Other young women are not out to punish a baby they are just trying to survive in a world that is as hostile to them as it is sometimes to an unborn baby.

A compassionate response. It is important to have thought about things enough to know how we want to live our own lives.

You can pray for other people and leave it at that. We don't live the consequences, they do. Somehow, I believe that God will take care of any baby that does not make it into this world.

I honeslty think abortion is really stuid and mean how could someone do that to a kid? I mena if your to young or dont have money still have the baby and give the baby up for adoption intead of killing the baby. Anyone who gets and abortion is really stupid! People must cry when they hear about all of the little kittens that are put to sleep by SPCA because they can't find enough homes for them. They must cry when they see slaughter of baby seals on an ice flow, they must cry when a child dies after being hit by a car, they must cry when their boyfriend breaks up with them or is seen at a dance with another girl. Do you cry when someone gives you a needle poorly?
We human beings cry quite a bit in life. There is a lot to cry about.If all an abortion does is make you cry, or sad, is it really a unique experience.

We should all think as the abortion issue is very compelling but sacrificing young girls who have been victims of rape, or even older females,to carrying a child that represents having been defiled by a monster for a fetus is equally compelling.

Who are we to insist that they live with that particular nightmare. Aside from that a very young female is often ridiculed, shamed and discredited by other for even being pregnant. It sounds like a sentence I would not want to serve under those circumstances nor would I expect 13 and 14 year old children to be able to manage it with a maturity that does not, even yet, exist.

If you want to cry for the fetus at least cry for the damaged young women who, through no fault of their own, find themselves pregnant as loudly.
