The formula goes like this.

if Import + Vietnamese Trourist to oversea < Export + Remittance + FDI (Foreign Direct Investment)+ Foreign tourists, then the country is ok.

I know last year the Remittance was 7.8 Billions. And the Foreign tourists brought in 3.5 Billions.

I forgot the figure for the actually FDI disbursement, several Billions actually.

So, Vietnam can afford to have a large trade deficit.

I think the key problem in Vietnam is that the people hoard gold and dollars. It's almost like the country wealth went into the black hole. Dollars and golds sitting in the pots, hole digged deep into the ground are not doing anything.

If those dollars and gold get converted into roads and long-term infrastructures, Vietnam will be well off.
