you cant blame the makers of the game
where were his parents?
last time i checked, being a parent meant you stopped foolish behaviour such as letting a 13 year old stay out playing on computer games for 36 hours.
they are paying the price now though

we need more sensible mums like you in this world who are actually willing to take responsibility for thier children....after all, they are only children and need nurturing into the adualts they will become.

If a person commits suicide over a game, no matter which game it is, the PERSON has a problem.

parents always do crap like that when the kid kills itself: they refuse to accept the truth, that there was something else bothering him. he probably decided to kill himself but decided to have serious war craft fun before dying. Lots of times when i wanted 2 commit suicide i decided that B4 the act i would go all out to have fun and then end it.

I am sick and tired of parents blaming their irresponsible kid's actions on the media. This would have stopped if the parents had interveined. Besides, why didn't they realize he was missing for a day and a half? Sounds like they didn't care.

I'm not an adult, but if I ever have kids I know I wouldn't let them play something for 36hours straight, I'd make them stop for at least a few hours *like 4 hours* then maybe let them get back on, maybe. then again, I would've grabbed my kid from the cafe in the first place a lot sooner than the poor kid's parents did. I'd probably kick my mom if she ignored me for that long. Most other kids would jump at the chance to be able to leave for a good 36 hours, especially so unsupporvised(sp?)

The kid didn't kill himself over the game because in 2004 it wasn't even out yet!

It's a matter of one taking responsibiltiy. Auto makers not performing needed recalls, big tobacco companies adding chemicals to make their product more addictive, and video game software companies making violent and demeaning games for our children to play.
Parents are not God, and cannot be everywhere. And cannot be expected to be looking over their childrens shoulders 24/7.
This software industry, as well as the Music industry must be made to understand that they are responsible for the carnage they envoke and inspire in our youth today. And that is done most effectively by taking their wallets and pocketbooks.....

Some of what you say has validity, but if this kid was in an internet cafe, that means he wasn't home. What parents of a 13 year old let him stay out all night. They damn well should have known where he was, and I don't think any parent would let a child stay on the computer for 36 hours straight. In this case, I think the parents hold a LARGE amount of responsibility for being irresponsible parents.

Alan, You are very correct, but must have lead a somewhat protected lifestyle. He was doing what Millions of children do every day. That does not make it right, but that is the world we live in today. So, I can agree that the parents need to shoulder the blame for their childs lack of curfew, but that does not release the software industry from it's culpabilty here.

I'm sorry. I can't agree. We shoud ban most movies and videos and comics and G-d only knows whar else, by your viewpoint.
I know things are different than when I was a child. I'm 51. I was not particularly sheltered, but things were different back then. There's no way, I would have been out of the house all night at his age.
There were still war movies and superhero comics where good battled evil. Either kids reacted differently back then,or if they didn't,no one ever thought to put the blame on anyone other than the parents and children, because that is where the blame lies.
If a child commits suicide, he has deep, rooted problems, and to blame a software manufacturer is just not fair.

I agree with Urban and the Beaner, the boys parents are to blame, what the f**k were his parents thinking letting their child play 36 hours straight. I know no normal thinking parent would let that happen. its not the companies fault he commited suicide, he probably had many problems at home or his life. i think the company Blizzard should sue them for bad parenting and emotional damege that they lost a loyal great customer and player.
