Yes, it would. The backbone of Nintendo consists of their portable systems and exclusive content for those systems. Their primary market consists of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Pokemon fans, all Nintendo exclusives. If they don't keep their fans happy, they lose any footing they have in the market and collapse. Making the exclusive content no longer exclusive destroys the "club" feel that we have come to know from Nintendo, and us fans love our clubs, we don't want just anyone to join.
