Scenario: Purchased PS3 (40GB). Totally anticipating backwards compatibilty. Only in 6pt font on the box does it alert you that it is only limited in what it can use from the past(PS1 only)

Within the hour, I was back at Gamestop to return it.

Since it was a return...its was USED. They could not refund/Credit the full amount. They also buy used systems so... EVEN WITH A RECEIPT dated today and the with CLERK telling me..."yeah I remember you"...My system was...USED.

He offered me $220.
This is total bulls%%.

Why on earth SONY would create a unit that was not Backwards Compatible is a total bonehead move

This should be criminal. I will never buy a system/controller from them again.

wow bro thta really sucks, i mean, not only did u buy the worst system, they wouldnt even let u return it. owwwww (and plz, no flames about ps3 being the worst, you cant argue it) the only games id get for a ps3, can already be purchased on a 360(which are better since u can play with MORE people on xblive), excluding mgs4, being the only reason anyone would buy a ps3.

That is what you get for being uneducated about the incredibly expensive electronic device you were purchasing. You can't just buy crap and expect things you want, you should do some research.

You got what you deserved. In fact, you're no better then the uneducated parents that buy their kids GTA games because they're idiots and think that all games are kid toys then bitch about the violence and sex.

So it was open? You opened a system without being educated about it, and then it was everybody else's fault when it wasn't what you thought? Get over it.

In the future, buy from Circuit City. I bought a 360 from there and had to return it because within 30 days it was freezing, they told me that I could exchange it or get my $$ back.

The goal of a perfect market is informed buyers. Well in every single game magazine, forum, online game news site and pretty much every form of media, the 40 GB model has been shown to NOT have backward compatibility. Sorry, but if you didn't know about it then you'll either blind or just stupid. On the other hand, I bought the 40 GB model and it's better than the 80 GB one in some ways. Not only is it $100 cheaper but it uses 60 NM chips which make it run smoother and not heat up as much.
Take it up with Sony

It is company policy at GameStop and any retail store you go to. A new system, once you open it, will be considered used. A new system can not be returned once opened. If they could be returned, so many people would pick up a system, play a game, return the game and system once done.. repeat the process with the next game they want to play. The return policies are in place for a reason. Not saying that you would do such a thing, but think why a hair dryer says do not use in shower.

Take it up with Sony, they cant change their mind on what they want with the PS3, and you should have asked the clerk first if the system was backwards compatable and do some research beforehand.

As for the comment about returning it to Circuit City for cash back... look where they are now.. OUT OF BUSINESS.. because they would take back everything no matter what. They lost money since they didnt have the funds to run their stores and keep the company afloat. Again, there are reasons why there are return policys like this in place.

yeah you can't do that...receipts have serial numbers on them...it'd be tough to return an opened PS3 with a different serial number than the unopened one you just picked up. You might get lucky and have one store not check...but I doubt that you'd get away without either one of them checking...

uhmmm... it's not gamestop getting away with murder. thats like buying a blueberry pie and wanting it to be cherry. you opened the pie, but when you opened it, it wasn't cherry so you try to return it. you cant re-sell an opened box.
in simpler terms... would YOU buy an opened system? if someone at gamestop came out with an opened box and said "oh no it's ok, someone just returned it because it wasn't backward compatible," would you still take it. the answer is probably no.
besides, if you saw it on the box, why did you open it? and even at that point, you should find out first if it's backwards compatable if thats why you're buying it. the only stupid questions are those unasked.

Ok, Enough complaining that the ps3 isn't backwards compatible. You have the most advanced entertainment system (not just video games) that is available to the general public consumer, and you're complaining that you can't play games that aren't even half as good as the ones that are coming out now? Really?

There's a PS3 with PS2 compatibility but i don't know where you could get one. It sucks they wouldn't give you full refund... you didn't even do anything with it. Why did you buy only a 40GB they have 80GB and 160GB. Maybe you should of tried another store... maybe disc replay.

Daily Horoscope for June 19

Capricorn

You're feeling slightly unconventional and you're looking for activities that will reflect your mood. You certainly won't be very keen on doing things that are drearily predictable or boring, although you'll grit your teeth and get on with them if you have no choice. But ideally you should do things on the spur of the moment, preferably in the company of people who make you feel alive and alert.
