Venezuela weapons worry US, Colombia

The United States and Colombia have long been wary of Venezuela's peacetime military buildup, suspecting the weapons could end up in the hands of drug-trafficking Colombian rebels.

Now they have documented reasons for their worries _ certified by Interpol.

Colombian rebel computer files described Thursday as authentic by the international police agency suggest a dramatic arms buildup by President Hugo Chavez could benefit leftist guerrillas that the U.S. has spent billions to defeat.

Venezuela is buying Russian fighter jets, helicopters and Chinese light-attack jets. It is making armored combat vehicles that can be mounted with surface-to-air missiles, planning to build South America's first Kalashnikov rifle factory and spending big on rockets, bullets, assault weapons, sniper rifles and night-vision equipment.

Chavez is spoiling for a war to distract the Venezuelans from his failures. He believes any war will unite the public once again. He will start a war, any war. That is his only hope to retain power, regardless of loss of life,.

Chamo, you are a PENDEJO. Are poor people in Caracas better off now, after all these years of Chavez government?? NOOOOO! They are the same or worse, and they'll be even worse after he continues to destruct all private enterprise. That's why Venezuelans are LEAVING their country. Chavez' story is not new. He's not inventing the wheel. What he's doing has been done and has FAILED many times. Sure, inequalities have to be resolved, and a country like Venezuela has no excuse for such poverty, but the answer is not to take away property without respect for the rule of law. The answer is not dictatorship without free speech. Venezuelans are poor in part because they're LAZY. Years of cheap gas and irresponsible government give aways have created a lazy, IGNORANT populace that feels ENTITLED to be fed by the government. The Venezuelan Army is not to be feared. They're lazy, unproffesional and not motivated to follow this ignorant gorilla, no matter how many jets they buy, they would also have to hire russian pilots.
