So - Zappalla was about to lose, so they engineered a mistrial. How loose and lazy must the DA's office be if they allowed this crap into evidence in the first place. And what's with Da' judge? The scary part is everyone on the prosecution side and the judicial side and Orie are getting their salary from the public trough.(That's us, you know) Government at it's best. What a crock!

What an old fool! The documents are obviously forged; have you viewed them, old man? As Judge Manning stated: Ray Charles could see these were forged. And who submitted them into evidence? The DEFENSE, old fool! And who testified as to their authenticity? Senator Orie! Yet you blame the DA's office for their existance?

Good gawd, but you are one crazy old man... a right wing-nut who would blame anyone and everyone save the guilty parties for this offense.

Ahh - my progressive friend. When documents are introduced into evidence, everyone gets to look them over. The prosecution did not do it's job in that they allowed the jury to be charged before calling foul. This is incompetence or skulduggery on Zappalla's folks. Unless they knew they were about to lose and brought attention to the documents to cause the mistrial. In any case, the proof of a criminal offense is on the prosecution. These guys are the gang who couldn't shoot straight.
The problem is, now, we all have to pay for more of the same, unless double jeopardy is called and it sure looks that way.

The DA and the court are at fault for allowing this crap in the first place. The problem, now, is that the issue will never be settled and it amounts to a political prosecution in the court of public opinion, which is what Zappalla wanted in the first place. And the sheeple will be led by the nose again.

By the way dodo, why would the judge cite a blind black man? Bit racist wouldn't you say?

Wow! What an idiot you are, old fool! The "skulduggery" originated with those who forged the documents, and then admitted them into evidence. That was the DEFENSE, old fool. It is the DEFENSE which committed the CRIMINAL act, should this clumsy forgery be established, I that appears a sure thing. Proving who actually did it will be more difficuylt, but tell me, old man, who alone clearly benefits from this criminal act within Senator's camp?

The DEFENSE submits fraudulent documents, but YOU blame the prosecutors and the court? You are a true right wing-nut whack-job, old fool, and your break with reality in this instance approaches the level of psychosis!

From the evidence available, illegal tampering with the documents in question is clear, so a double jeopardy escape from a second prosecution for the Senator clearly does NOT "sure(ly)look that way."

And the prosceution's about to lose? Did you read the newspaper stories, old fool? Several jurers reported they had not even taken a straw vote as to guilt or innocence!

But don't let the facts get in your way, old fool!

Again, half assed logic. The prosecutors accepted the documents without looking. That's incompetence at best, or perhaps stupidity. All evidence in these cases is shared with all parties. Why did they wait until the jury was charged? "Cause they were afraid they would lose, that's why.

All Zappalla wants to do is kill Orie politically because of her stand on the "family" gambling interests. That way no one will ever stand up to the family for another generation.

What a clever way to accomplish this. Create the double jeopardy and extend the whole thing for months. Typical Democratic slime.

Ever wonder who gave Wecht to the feds? Who gave DeFazio to the feds. Who let Murphy slide? Hmmmmm. Yep just an old fool. Keep on a truckin' dodo. Just keep your eyes open.

Still in massive denial are we, ya' old fool? "Mean" Bill Green, Republican political commentator, indicated on TV Friday night that the DA's people got the exhibit's on Monday (defense has no advance discovery requirement), and they got to the judge on Wednesday... pretty damn quick, old fool.

And, again, it was the DEFENSE that committed the CRIME (yes, it is a criminal offense) here, old fool, NOT the DA's office. But I will cede that trusting Republicans to act in honorable manner, and in accordance with the law, was pretty foolish on the prosecutors' part!

Mr. Green also admitted that the evidence is pretty darn overwhelming against the Orie defense team for FORGERY (a felony in this case), and Mr. Green felt that she should cop a plea, since the forgeries would result in new, even more damning FELONY charges, and she needs to cut her losses, and fast. Again, this is from a well known local REPUBLICAN commentator, old fool!

After Jeff Habay, you would think this kind of bullsh*t would be less likely; and you ask when city voters will wake up, old fool? They did, and it was decades ago!

Must agree with Foibles. It looks like something a child would think of to alter grades on a report card. Senator "tough on crime" Orie certainly has some explaining to do. I never appreciated her pandering stance on longer prison sentences as a solution for crime but, in this case, maybe....

The forged defense documents introduced during the public corruption case of state Sen. Jane Orie, triggering a mistrial, were called "deceitful, dishonest, despicable" and "a crime" by Judge Manning. Legal and handwriting and document experts have called the alleged forgeries one of the most obvious cut-and-paste jobs they'd ever seen. Investigators are also examining ink-tagging technologies to determine if a time line for the signatures can be established that may contradict testimony in the trial regarding when the documents were signed.

Adding a cover-up to existing criminal charges of corruption, and the possible cover-up becomes worse than the original crime itself... shades of the Nixon's Watergate scandal.

She should have just fessed up. An elaborately stupid cover-up. What a tangled web.

Wouldn't it have been clever if the Prosecution slipped these in and waited until the jury was charged? It gets the trial killed, and continues the political murder of a a senator who had the balls to question the "family"?

It's comforting to know that the Republicans in this area are just as corrupt as the Democrats.

Obviously OC, you aren't that aware of procedure. Yes, the prosecution gets to review the evidence the DEFENSE submits, as a rebuttal to the arguments the DA presents. Although, at times the DEFENSE repeatedly tried to submit evidence during the prosecution's arguments. The Judge would not allow into evidence until the DEFENSE took the stand. The documents as stated by Orie, "came from Orie (JP's) personal files" supposedly. With the Secret Service and State Police analyzing ALL of the DEFENSE documents against the origionals the DA has, it will become apparent. She has disrespected the title, the party and the state in her misguided logic and use of resources.

Clever? You are simply crazy, old man; why fantasize about a crime the Orie camp appears already to have committed, albeit quite clumsily and amateurishly. As Burgh Republican said, she has dishonored her office, the party and our Commonwealth!

Yet you foolishly still seek to defend Orie's lies with yet more lies! You are a sad, old man... foolish, and not too bright as well. Thank god the city voters have always seen through the Republicans, as Orie and Habay have well dewmonstrated over the past few years.

Aha - the act of blind faith. You trust those in the City/County building. May the gift of good fortune follow you forever. May you take nourishment from the breast of the Democratic politicians and may the government take care of you for the rest of your life. Why, oh why, question their ethics, they have proven themselves to you and you have bought it hook, line and sinker.

The defense first used the forged letters to cross examine Pavlot, Orie's chief of staff, who didnnot recall ever seeing them. At that time, the prosecution challenged them, as fishy, but they were not admitted into evidence. The defense then offered them into evidence during Orie's testimony. Orie needed to authenticate them, before they could be admitted. She testified that she wrote on them, and that she found them in Pavlots's files. The papers said that the prosecution saw them only days before deliberations. It doesn't sound like they were given to the prosecution before that.

OC, if you're right in claiming that the DA rigged this, there should be hell to pay. It seems like a really stupid thing for them to do, though. This is really turning out to be some scene. You couldn't make this up. At first, I thought it was Orie making a stupid move...beginning to have doubts.

Well, with the DA issuing another search warrant as noted in the news yesterday and turning over 24 documents siezed from Orie's file before and after the trial, it will be apparent once the Secret Service tests them for origionality and that they were possibly altered by the defense without a doubt. Could be far worse than the orgional crime. She is losing all credibility to those she represented once.
