Your first 5 years will be spent in a Field Office somewhere in the US. No guarantees that the office you apply through will be the one you work in if you are hired. As part of the application process, you will be required to sign a mobility agreement. One advantage you will have is that, unlike some other agencies, you will know which office you will be assigned to prior to reporting to training. During your first posting, you will primarily be conducting criminal investigations (counterfeit, fraud, etc...) as well as being being given temporary protective assignments. One thing to note, moving to your first place of duty is at your own expense, the Service does not pay for this move, but does pay for all subsequent moves. Good Luck.
Thanks for the information. Is there anytime that they require you to move to DC and are there permenant protective assignments after initial investigative assignments. I would like to do both, but I have always enjoyed investigative work. Thanks again.

Yes, there is the possibility that you will be required to move to DC, should you be transferred to HQ or the Washington Field Office. Additionally, there are "permanent" protective assignments, usually after your first tour in a field office. These include the details assigned to the President, VP, Former Presidents or Dignitary protection. These tours are "permanent" in that you are assigned full-time to protection and do not have investigative responsiblities while on them. However, after 3 -5 years you will rotate off the detail and back to a field office or other assignment.

After the initial 5 years of investigations, are you placed in a permanent protection detail? Roughly how many moves could an agent expect during their career? I would prefer to stay close to home, but I would like to know what I'm getting into ahead of time. Thanks for the information.
