Sorry, I disagree. His statement makes it sound like you can't be patriotic unless you serve in the military. That is arrogant and HOGWASH. Also, instead of these politicians citing their years in public service maybe they should cite their years of volunteer work. That "public service" c r a p is just that. Nowadays I associate "public service" with pandering to those that contribute to your campaign and forgetting who voted you into office.
Well, we're going to have to agree to disagree then.
He was saying it in response to being accused of being unpatriotic. I don't have to wave a flag, I can pull out my DD-214 and cite my years of service to this nation.
We volunteered to serve this nation and go to war, it's not like we were drafted. It's not that we believe that you can't be patriotic, but it is ridiculous to accuse us of being unpatriotic.
Or are vets not allowed to defend their patriotism and pride for serving the nation?
What did JFK say, "ask not what your nation can do for you?" Then you go on to defend a "public servant" who accuses a veteran of being unpatriotic.

If that's your interpretation, then that's what it is, but I don't see it that way. You call a vet unpatriotic, you better be able to cite your service to this nation... which does not include some personal agenda for political and lets face it, power and financial gain.

All you need to know about John Douglass' character is right here in this video: he is ill-tempered and voters may disqualify him for hitting a young man trying to film him at one of his town hall style meetings:

Speaking of Town Halls, about 6 weeks ago, John Douglass embarrassed himself by hitting a young man filming him at his own town hall style event in Farmville Virginia. Not only that, he refuses to apologize for this abusive behavior. Old man, old school, and NOT the kind of behavior Virginians want in their representatives. See the video here:
