Challenges to gay marriage bans: Where they stand

Aug 5, 2014 Full story: The Modesto Bee 64

A few additional points to consider:

The 4th & 10th circuit cases are all headed to the SCOTUS. It's doubtful the SCOTUS will act on their cert requests until after the 6th, 7th, & 9th circuits issue their rulings later this year- probably Oct or Nov at the earliest.

The 6th circuit is hearing all 6 cases (OH, MI, TN, KY) tomorrow; the 7th circuit hears their two cases (IN, WI) on the 26th, and the 9th circuit is hearing 2 cases (NV & ID) on 8 Sep. Don't expect decisions for 2-3 months at least.

If the SCOTUS for some reason should grant cert on one of the pending cases before we get the rulings from the 6th & 7th & 9th circuits, then all three of those circuits would almost certainly put their rulings on hold until the SCOTUS rules.

Assuming the SCOTUS doesn't grant cert right away, they will have about 13 cases to choose from in early 2015- including a couple of cases only requiring states to recognize out-of-state marriages. That could be an interim step the SCOTUS takes before going for a nationwide ruling.

Unfortunately, the longer it takes for all the circuit courts to issue their rulings, the more likely it is the SCOTUS calendar for early 2015 will be full. According to Scotusblog, their calendar is already full through the end of this year. That give the SCOTUS a logical excuse to continue to delay these cases and increases the likelihood a marriage case might not be heard until the 2015/16 term.

The courts need to uphold the people's right to protect their communities and children from the public vice and propaganda from activist sexual maniacs and deviants.

"The courts need to uphold the people's right to protect their communities and children from the public vice and propaganda from activist sexual maniacs and deviants."

Absolutely NO objection here on that!

YES let us STOP pedophiles and other deviants from getting their deviant behavior classified as accepted and can claim discrimination based on up brining, genetics, and other sciences that they can show their behavior is accepted and that history shows them as normal in ancient times.

BULLSHIT on that!

Unfortunately if Cortwainer is talking of Homosexuals and marriage oops.
Read the U S Constitution and Jesus' Plan of Salvation before spouting off remarks of ignorance or of bias.
WE ALL are supposedly guaranteed certain freedoms in this country.
One is Equal Rights and with the 14th Amendment Equal Protection.
Second is the Freedom of Religion. To worship and practice what you believe.

I DO NOT support SSM and neither does my church (yet). However, many gays and lesbians go to church and their churches support SSM.

If I VALUE My FREEDOM of RELIGION I MUST allow their Freedom of Religion too.

Jesus told us that his Plan was our agency. WE HAVE the Right to choose
"What, When, Where, and How we believe. To this end he also said anyone who taketh away another persons agency to choose is in BIG Trouble.

He also told us to love thy neighbor and NOT to Judge as he would.
Nobody ever said that being an American or Christian was EASY. To enjoy OUR freedoms WE MUST allow others the same freedoms.

The activists and deviants have been losing every case lately. Lets hope we are nearing the end to the mindless war on the gay community based on fantasies.

My state is still demanding recognition of Marriage Equality.*sigh* We still have a way to go, but I see more and more groups of support quietly working for recognition amongst the shrill howls and snarling of the brain dead rednecks.

You do realize of course that most (if not all) religions regard same sex relationships as a sin; at least according to the Holy Bible.

Praying to God for homosexual relationships to be accepted in society is like the Mafia pandering to the police for acceptance of their style of business. And if you bothered to read the Holy Bible, you would realize that God is a he, and not a she.

Right, we know that because the men who wrote the bible said so after they met him? You religious nuts are just that, nuts.

Yes, we do know that men wrote the Holy Bible on behalf of God. Now what evidence do you have that God is a female?

Who did you say is nuts?
