@What a shame..

Your beliefs apply only to you and those that believe as you do. America is a secular nation. That is both a fact and a reality.. SO if you truly believe your god is going to destroy this country. Then I would suggest moving to Iran or perhaps to another country, maybe Russia.

Just make everyone gay strait or otherwise get a civil union to be recognized by the state, and let churches "marry" whom ever they choose.

Everyone gets what they want then, unless of course the only intent is to attack religion which seems to be the trendy thing to do nowadays.

churches can have their rite of matrimony for whomever they want.

mariage is a state run, legal nad binding contract. do not confuse the two.

perhaps if you kept your cult in your tax subsidized church where it belongs, you wouldn't feel like you are being attacked when rational people try to live in the real world...

I don't go to church or belong to one.
I made a simple observation, that according to your reply #2, seems to hit the nail square on the head.

But for your learning pleasure it was the institution of the church before it was the states. You want to be mad at somebody about it be mad at the government that decided to poke their nose in it in the first place.

So why the big hangup on the word "marriage" why do you want people to use this "cults" institution for their legal union if it so damn horrible and insidious a thing to begin with?

What would be so horrible if the law recognized all legal unions as civil unions, whats the big fkn deal?

no, no no...you have been sorely misinformed. religion didn't get into the marriage game until the 14th century, and then only to have a flunky bless the state sponsored marriage on the steps of the church.

marriage has and always will be the purview of the state.

you should read up on issues before you post such drivel...that must be embarrassing as hell to look so foolish...

In 1215, the church decreed that a “licit” marriage must take place in church. But people who married illictly had the same rights and obligations as a couple married in church: their children were legitimate; the wife had the same inheritance rights; the couple was subject to the same prohibitions against divorce.

Not until the 16th century did European states begin to require that marriages be performed under legal auspices. In part, this was an attempt to prevent unions between young adults whose parents opposed their match.

there were state marriages in anccient greece and in ancient Rome. yes, when the church WAs the state in Europe that is when they got into the marriage game.

they glommed onto a social construct that is the purview of the state, as it is today in the US.

whatever rite any religious cult or garden club or three people dancing around a fire with sticks has, it is meaningless until it is filed with our gov't.

Your two posts, what a shame, is both meaningless and ridiculous to any one that does not believe as you do.. By the way.. You do understand that USA is a secular nation. Not subject to your god rules. You do understand that fact. Correct?
