Smith getting used to Washington

Jun 16, 2013 Full story: Springfield News-Leader 34

Rep. Jason Smith has been in office for less than two weeks, but the newly elected Missouri Republican and 32-year-old attorney-turned-legislator already seems poised to cut a different profile in the U.S. House than his predecessor.

Hope those who voted for Jason Smith are not on Social Security, Medicaid, or Medicare. He doesn't believe in any government assistance. He is anti-government. Just sayin

I'm not big on government assistance either..I work for everything I have and have my own health insurance. My medical bills are a lot higher than these lazy asses on Medicaid that don't pay for anything. You shouldn't be able to have kids if you can't afford to pay for them. Everyone wants a handout from the government

If you had ever worked you would know you pay into Social Security every payday..it's not an entitlement. Never heard of a 65 year old pregnant gal working it to pay for her illigiment baby..like the freeloaders do.

Social security and Medicare are good ideas though I could invest my money much better than the government can..the only problem I have is the freeloaders taking advantage of the government programs..there should be much stricter regulations on it

It doesn't matter who you voted for. Both candidates were morally bankrupt when it came to social issues.

They both oppose abortion, immigration reform, and gay marriage.

Morally bankrupt for opposing the slaughter of innocent babies by the millions and for opposing deviant, perverted sexual behavior???

Are you nuts?

...and yet the average "Republican" would not condone any birth control other than abstinence... If you don't want poor people to have children (as you stated above) then don't you feel it is far more cost effective to hand out cheap condoms than to deal with more poor children. Perhaps euthanasia for these citizens would appeal to you.

That's bullshit. Conservatives simply don't want government stealing from our grandchildren to pay for birth control for able bodied adults.

Nope. The most cost effective way is to force people to be accountable for their own choices. Condoms are cheap. Even poor people can stumble into any Walmart and buy them. If they choose not to and wind up producing a child, then that is THEIR burden, not that of society.

As long as government continues to remove the responsibility and accountability for the bad choices people make, they will continue to make them. As soon as people begin feeling the negative consequences of their own actions, they will change them.

I'm not going to argue with you on the morality of abortion, that's your personal thing, but are you serious about gay people? Deviant and perverted? Are you really not aware that homosexuality is naturally occurring?

Look nimrod, slaughtering the most helpless and innocent of all human beings by the millions is horridly barbaric and unbelievably immoral. It's not my "personal thing", it's the holocaust of history.

As far as homosexual acts, they are indeed deviant and perverted. People like you who are bereft of any sense of decency, by the same twisted logic, must also support pedophilia and bestiality. Sicko.

Totally agree. Too many people feel that the government owes them something for their bad decisions.

Totally agree just like they need to end all farm subsidies and oil company tax credits. The farm bill is a joke, why any price supports? Social Security is insane, if people had saved they would not need it. Same with sending our military to keep some third world country safe.

Yes it is open, since it is the 4th of July we will be giving free barbecue and soda to all customers and kids under ten can pick one free item from the toy department. We are also paying any employee who has to work that day double overtime and giving them the 5th off with pay.

Having fun with your strawman argument there, bucko? Two adults can consent to a sexual relationship, whereas animals and children can't. I guess you don't understand consent, something you have in common with rapists.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the holocaust is the holocaust of history, not abortion. Abortion is legal, get over it bro.

I realize Mr. Smith has gone to Washington but don't you think he should take down his signs. I saw them all the way down to Ozark county. I thought they had to be down right after the election
