Poll: Majority want tax cuts for all, even the wealthy

WASHINGTON — A majority of Americans want the Bush tax cuts extended for everyone, despite a strong push by President Barack Obama to eliminate them on higher incomes, according to a new McClatchy-Marist poll.

The poll found 52 percent of registered voters saying they want all the tax cuts extended, including the tax cuts for incomes above $250,000, while 43 percent want the cuts extended just for incomes below that threshhold.

SO is the GOP willing to oppose the tax cuts if the top income folks don't get there cut?

How is that politically smart protecting a very small minority.

If the GOP let's Obama has his way, they would take the number one issue off the table for Obama's 2012 campaign. Let them have it, then when it does not work, you can show them it did not work. And besides many folks that make more than a million a year...vote democrat.

Oh but you GOP supporters are saying "but that is not very conservative and I would agree. To that I say, neither was doubling the size of government while adding new entitlements and government agencies and exploding the deficit, but the GOP not only supported that but passed it. Then you gave us McCain, a candidate that agreed with democrats as much as his fellow republicans.

Pass the cuts except on the rich and you take the number one issue away form Obama and the democrats.

Please don't tell me that the GOP is willing to hold up tax cuts for tens of millions just so that the top earners also get their cuts. That is not a good plan to win the supports of these tens of millions and it furthers the perception that the GOP are the party for the rich.

Voters: Obama Built Economic Downturn

The Hill released a poll today which goes a long way to explain the challenge Barack Obama faces on his bid for reelection. The poll of likely voters found that 64% believe the current economic downturn is more severe than those in the past. Two-thirds, 66%, believe that the downturn is the result of bad policy decisions out of Washington. Worse, for Obama, though, is that a majority of voters put the blame for the downturn squarely on him.

53% of likely voters say, "Obama has taken the wrong actions and slowed the recovery down." Obama has constantly tried to shift the voters' anxiety about the economy to others, blaming Wall Street, Congress or even former President Bush for the economic troubles. But a plurality, 34%, say Obama is most to blame for the downturn. That view is even stronger among Independents, 37% of whom believe Obama's policies are most responsible.

ReTHUGlican strategy is to let the cuts expire and blame Obama and the Dems for it, then try to force through a new package of cuts to use as a political wedge issue.

Like the poor pay taxes. They do not, and that is the problem. Even if we taxed them $1. per hundred they make from working, or are given for sitting around doing nothing, then they would have a say in how things are done. They don't need to pay taxes, they have sold their vote to the Democrats, and do nothing for their ill gotten gain.
