Birther Movement is an embarrassment

Maybe this is the way political disputes play out in the Internet Age, but we think it is disgusting and dangerous. Someone flings a charge, then lets word of mouth, e-mail blasts and talk-show chatter turn an easily debunked allegation into a full-fledged circus of conspiratorial cover-up theories. Americans deserve better and need to demand some responsibility - especially from elected officials who seem most interested in playing to the worst instincts the political fringe has to offer. I am not sure where this whole thing is going??? If it was found out he was not a legal citizen of the US and would no longer be recognized as president, the the blacks across America would revolt. Remember Rodney King and "can't we all just get along" caused mass riots and looting all because a felon was beaten up (unjustly). DC would be in ruins and New York City and LA would be in ashes. While I do not mind the idea of NYC and LA no longer being identified as epicenters of America the whole idea of another Civil War is flat out unwanted by anyone in this country.
If you have been paying attention to rant radio and many of the frightwing posters on Topix, that is EXACTLY what they want and they are so delusional that they think the majority does and that the military will side with them.:O

You do have a source for this information that you can share, right. Google doesn't seem to know anything about it.

I think the birthiers should excercise their right to question what they believe is a wrong committed.

I might question the depth to which many actually believe this to be true, or have given any thought whatsoever beyond the rhetoric in the right wing media, but not my point really.

If it's a provable truth, how about getting on with it so we don't have to listen to promises. Do it or sit down and be quiet. It's noisy enough out there now.

I too am somewhat conservative but I am very realistic about what the outcome could be. The perplexing thing would be what to do if this became a worse case scenario? It matters little how much I disagree with the politics of a president compared to the carnage that would happen if the truth would be in the negative for Obama. I am not far right nor do I agree with them same as I disagree with those on the far left. When will a time come when the normal people of this country are heard again rather than the far fringe lunatics???

I think we have a very difficult and serious economic problem that is going to require a multifaceted approach to fix. The Republicans have no constructive ideas so they are just obstructing with lies for political points. The Democrats are trying to work in a bipartisan manner, compromising with the Republicans but when it comes to the votes, the Republicans vote no and claim they are being shut out. While I understand the Democrats don't want to be all alone out there if something fails, its time for them to grow some blls and just do what needs to be done without watering everything down to please people who aren't going to vote for it anyway. If it works they will get all the credit. If the waterdown versions fail they will still get all the blame.

This time around its the far right fringe lunatics calling for revolution. When the far left fringe was calling for revolution they didn't get any positive media coverage, if you will recall. Things are different today with partisan TV channels, the internet, the sophisticated right wing media echo chamber. It's possible this makes the far right fringe believe they have more support than they actually have and that is dangerous. No sane person wants civil war so no doubt the majority of Americans (who are sane) will oppose anyone who tries to start one.

We acted stupidly by electing George Bush - twice. We acted smartly by not re-electing him for a third term by voting for McLiar.

It's been proven, that doesn't stop birthers. NOTHING will convince them that they're wrong. Any proof is dismissed as being incomplete or fraudulent.

I have been ruminating on this but it makes no sense on any level I've tried. I guess the same could be said about the Tom Wolfe quote.
It's a shame that we have to be one or the other. I'm a fiscal conservative but a social progressive. I voted republican all my wife, I did vote for Carter and that fixed me for decades. But then something interesting happened, the parties shifted - I'm the same, Republicans, the party of stuffy old white men became fixated on something they have always sucked at - social issues.
They WERE the party that protected the constitution.
They WERE the party that ignored race, religion, or general 'poofiness.'
They WERE dedicated to keeping the size of goverment small.
They WERE sensible about war and military budgets.
That was then and this is now.
The dems are now the party of:
allowing perverted sickos the right to use womens bathrooms
the party of sure to fail socialist health care
the party of imaginary AGW
the party of excuses for bad behavior
the party of apologists
the party of phoneys
the party of luddites
the party of forced pc behavior

I'm pretty sure of what made this country great and it isn't what the dems and Obama have in mind for us now.
And that's not to say the repubs are perfect, far from it, it's the system, far from perfect, but still the best ever invented.

I have a decent mileage car, why don't i get $4500? that's an awful lot of money we don't even have.

You see the difference between our posts.

Constitution
Racial and social tolerance,
governmental role in private lives
national defense

vs

bathrooms and insults. This, you never seem to realize is why you lost. I could care less. When I lived in Japan the cleaning lady would often chat with me at the urinal. It's just not that big a deal

Both parities seem to be pointing fingers at each other saying it's his fault! No! it's her's! and it all leads back to the beginning blaming it on terrorism. You make the money, the people run scared to the poles and vote for whom ever you set up for Presidency. What's few thousand lives comparable to the trillion you make for ourselves. Conspiracy theories exist to be covered up to fool the American people that their money is safe while others go bankrupt. No wonder there is so much corruption within our government sneaking around looking through your mother purse and then blame it on some one else. I was born, why should you doubt that? Riches you have I don't and both parties are out to take all that is left from the homeless, poor, poor workers, middle class, upper middle class while your exempt from the stupid people calling 9/11 a conspiracy then you run around like your lost saying it's Obama's fault, as if he was the one that got Saddam Hussein killed. Thought your were for the American people, voted by the people, to protect the land we love called America, by our constitution passed down from our forefathers? Your all are nothing but money changers in the temple.

Why bother? When you can be POTUS without having to show it, what's the point?
