what we are talking about is all law abiding US citizens be treated the same by their government. Having equality in justice is a Constitutional principle.
Conservatives who scream so much about strictly adhering to constitution, get selective when it comes to this issue.

Let the opponents fight on.

80% of those under age 30 support marriage equality.
70% of those under age 40 support marriage equality.
60% of those under age 50 support marriage equality.
55% of those under age 65 support marriage equality.

The ONLY group with majority opposition is the over 65 age group.

The opposition is literally dying off.

Within a decade this is all over.

Then if we are all treated the same, we can have voter ID, The FEDERAL government has no area of involvement with Marriage. It is a State issue and always has been, just like abortion was until as Justice Ginsberg noted, THEY WENT TOO FAR MANDATING LAW TO ALL STATES.

I have a question for everyone.

Who or what gives you the right to dictate how others live their lives?

And even better, how does government have the right to dictate how an individual lives their life as long as they do not violate the rights of another?

The benefits of marriage are first defined by the definition of marriage, which is between one man and one women, just as nature intended for continuation of the species. This is an argument about money and changing a 4000 year old definition to benefit 2% of the population. It is basically moronic to incur resentment with 88% of the public to please the monetary wants of the 2%.

Too far in mandating access to a service Not provided by gov't
Abortion is not a service that is administered by gov't.
Marriage is a status that is administered by gov't.
You are very wrong about theFederal gov't having no involvement in marriage.
If you are married you receive a bonus from the IRS at tax time.
Being married gives you SSI survivors benefits,
In fact there are a huge number of benefits for married couples only,

There are 1,138 benefits, rights and protections provided on the basis of marital status in Federal law.[1] Because the Defense of Marriage Act defines "marriage" as only a legal union between one man and one woman, same-sex couples - even if legally married in their state - will not be considered spouses for purposes of federal law.

Oh, so in reality, it about changing the definition of marrige and what is normal in the natural world to fit your preversions. What's next, poligmy, beastality and sex with minors because it fits your idea of the equality clause.
