Democratic Platform Focuses on Fixing the Economy

"Today, our economy is growing again, al-Qaeda is weaker than at any point since 9/11, and our manufacturing sector is growing for the first time in more than a decade. But there is more we need to do, and so we come together again to continue what we started," the platform said.

Democrats unveiled a party platform at their national convention Monday that echoes President Barack Obama's call for higher taxes on wealthier Americans while backing same-sex marriage and abortion rights.

With the economy that Obama built in his first term, why would anyone in their right mind want a re-run?

There is no such economic growth during Obama era by using building debts (unacceptable higher debts) to run the economy, while there were higher growth and better employment picture during Bush period.

Although Al-Qaeda groups are not doing huge violences due to safeguard taken since Bush era, they have been built up by Obama beyond Libya.

Many violences did happen in Pakistan and elsewhere constantly.
There is absolutely no safeguard and security by naming bin Laden with no pictures shown, while telling fear of Muslims.

Economy (by Obama and company) has been run by large- debts building and huge borrowing, which is a detriment to the future, because it will crash again eventually in a matter of time.

After 4 years of recession NOW they are going to focuses on the economy? They are 4 years late and billions short. There are many things that I disagree with in the Republican platform but gays not being able to marry and women not being able to get an abortion will not leave future generations hungry and broke. Allowing criminals to flood the country, expanding welfare for the lazy and handing out billions of dollars to corporations, while assisting them to export jobs and import cheap labor all using borrowed money secured by tax dollars most certainly will.

Since January 2009, Obama has been focused like a laser on jobs. At least that is what he said.

But that was right after the unemployment rate jumped to a 16-year high according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics ( http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/10/business/ec... ).

What was the unemployment rate then? It was 7.2%

What is the unemployment rate today? 8.3%

We can do better. We should demand it.

Jess. You forget about the two years went the Dems controlled both houses of congress with a fillbuster proof majority. The Dem could have pass any thing they wanted, not a thing the Republicans could do to stop it. Place the blame for this creepy horror show where it belongs with Obummer and the Dems in the Senate.

It is not the Republicans that have blocked immigration reform by demanding amnesty for millions of known criminals. It is not the Republicans that are suing states, local governments and even individuals that attempt to enforce the law while ignoring states, local governments and individuals that openly violate federal immigration laws.
Of course Republicans want control and power. Do you actually think that Democrats do not want control and power? It is called politics stupid.

It's no surprise to see Hollywood out in full force this election year. They need people home, unemployed and in front of their TV sets. They know this group will use what pittance they have on movie tickets, DVD's and big screens....even if it is uses up every bit of their welfare allocation. They want the middle class busting their backs so they can support the lazy and demanding. The lazy and demanding are Hollywood's followers. The ambitious and hardworking don't have time for TV, movies and Hollywood gossip.

obama's hope and change is turn America into a Welfare State run by socialists, racists and an oppressive government that is ready to send grandma and grandpa off to death camps under the guise of govt. supported 'nursing' care. They have had conversations on how to get this growing group off the govt. teat and marching them off to an early grave is their answer. They can also get rid of voters who would vote for liberal competitiors.

That's why Americans sent Republicans to leadership in Congress: to stop the idiotic spending.

The Pork Bill did noting but put is nearly another trillion more in debt. And what did DumBama do with that money? He pandered to his union and environmentalist friends. Why in the world do you think Republicans want more of that?

DumBama is clueless. He doesn't know how to create jobs because he thinks it's government that creates them. Government doesn't create anything. All government can do is make it more or less inviting for the private market to create jobs, and DumBama is so anti-business it isn't funny.

Sorry to tell you, but it just got worse. This in today:

Bloomberg News
Food-Stamp Use Climbs to Record, Reviving Campaign Issue
By Alan Bjerga on September 04, 2012

Food-stamp use reached a record 46.7 million people in June, the government said, as Democrats prepare to nominate President Barack Obama for a second term with the economy as a chief issue in the campaign.

Participation was up 0.4 percent from May and 3.3 percent higher than a year earlier and has remained greater than 46 million all year as the unemployment rate stayed higher than 8 percent. New jobless numbers will be released Sept. 7.

“Too many middle-class families who have fallen on hard times are still struggling,” Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in an e-mailed statement today.“Our goal is to get these families the temporary assistance they need so they are able to get through these tough times and back on their feet as soon as possible.”

Food-stamp spending, which more than doubled in four years to a record $75.7 billion in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2011, is the U.S. Department of Agriulture’s biggest annual expense. Republicans in Congress have criticized the cost of the program, and the House budget plan approved in April sponsored by Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the party’s vice- presidential nominee, would cut expenses by $33 billion over 10 years.

Cuts Planned
“We need a new direction,” Amanda Henneberg, a spokeswoman for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, said in an e-mail.“Democrats are desperately trying to convince voters that they are better off than they were four years ago. But the opposite is true,” as evidenced by the food- stamp numbers, she said.

Reductions to the program have also emerged as a point of contention in debate over a farm bill to replace current law that expires Sept. 30. The U.S. Senate in June passed a plan that would lower expenditures by $4 billion over 10 years, while the House Agriculture Committee the following month backed a $16 billion cut.

During the Republican primary campaign, then-candidate Newt Gingrich labeled Obama as “the best food-stamp president in American history.” When the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People called his statements “inaccurate” and “divisive,” Gingrich dismissed the complaints as a smear from “modern liberals” who are “off the deep end.”
