Gitmo commission move the latest in a long line of Obama shifts

Washington (CNN)- Those who have followed President Obama's stance on which court is appropriate to try accused terrorists can be forgiven for getting a severe case of whiplash.

After all, it was candidate Obama in 2008 who made clear he intended to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility within a year of his presidency and put an end to military commissions there – the proceedings that extend only limited trial rights to accused terrorists. Then, it was President Obama who quickly signed an order calling for Guanatanomo's close while his Justice Department soon vowed that, in the interest of justice, Khalid Sheik Mohammed and other alleged 9/11 terrorists will be tried in civilian courts.

But three years later – the same day Obama formally announced his reelection bid – Attorney General Eric Holder announced the alleged 9/11 terrorists will in fact not be tried in a civilian court but instead in a military trial at Guantanamo – the same court in the same facility Obama long ago promised would be shuttered.

The seeming about-face might, more than anything else, be a dramatic affirmation of the old axiom, "On the Job Training of a president is messy."

It was a prediction none other than former Vice President Dick Cheney – an ardent defender of the use of military commissions – made shortly into Obama's presidency:

"I think the president will find, upon reflection, that to bring the worst of the worst terrorists inside the United States would be cause for great danger and regret in the years to come," he said during a speech to the American Enterprise Institute in 2009.

Barack Obama: GM Losing $84 billion a "big success"

Barack Obama has some 'splaining to do about taxpayers' profitable "investment" in General Motors. It turns out the president is imagining things.

Though Democrats tout the auto bailout as a success, recent reports illustrate the taxpayer cost of the GM auto bailout was substantially larger than the Obama administration and a Congressional Oversight report has owned up to.

"American taxpayers are now positioned to recover more than my administration invested in GM,” President Obama said, according to a piece in USA Today last November.

Steven Rattner, former head of the Treasury's auto task force, that was forced to Pay Millions in SEC Fines or Face Prosecution, agreed, telling CNN in November:“Recent progress at GM gives reason for optimism that it may be possible for taxpayers to get every penny back.”

However, a March 16 Congressional Oversight report, tells a different story. It estimates taxpayers will be out of $25 billion. Additionally, the report points out that “full repayment will not be possible unless the government is able to sell its remaining shares at a far higher price.”

That's only the beginning. Both the White House and the Congressional Oversight report omit the fact that during its bankruptcy, GM got a $45 billion tax break, courtesy of the American people.

GM is driving “away from its U.S.-government-financed restructuring with a final gift in its trunk: a tax break that could be worth as much as $45 billion,” reported The Wall Street Journal last November.

Over one year after the promises President Obama and his administration made about the auto bailout, a February piece on AutoBlog also confirms that GM will also get a $14 billion dollar domestic tax break:

GM will be able to skip its tax tab due to years of massive losses. Companies are typically forgiven a portion of future taxes due to their past losses, but that benefit is typically stripped after an organization goes through bankruptcy.

However, the Obama administration and its allies presently continue to celebrate the success of the auto bailout, regardless of the facts. "I don’t think there’s any doubt that this was a success," said (H/T Detroit News) acting assistant secretary at the Treasury Department Tim Massad, who oversees the TARP program at Treasury, to a House panel on Wednesday.

In Obama's world, success mean taxpayers only lost as much as $84 billion.

Obama Calls His Critics "Enemies"

In a last-ditch effort to salvage the Democratic majority, President Obama is encouraging Hispanic voters to remain inspired by stalled immigration "reform" to vote against Republicans on Election Day. More importantly, President Obama is inspiring his constituents to “punish our enemies and reward our friends,” encouraging a similar kind of “thugocracy” we have seen with labor unions.

In a radio interview that aired on Univision yesterday, Obama assured Hispanics that immigration overhaul was next on the agenda, despite the lack of Republican support:

If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, "We’re going to punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us," if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s going to be harder, and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2.

Obama = Piece of Sh*t.

You'll notice he DID NOT Retract those words during his proclamation.

ACLU to Obama: You Can't Just Kill US Citizens Whenever

For months, the news media has been full of reports that the Obama administration plans to kill Anwar Al-Awlaki, an accused terrorist who also happens to be a US citizen. This summer, two human rights groups sued on Al-Awlaki's behalf. Despite the possibility that Al-Awlaki could be killed at any moment, the court battle over his fate has already dragged on for weeks without even touching on the government's evidence against him. Instead, the Obama administration has been trying to have its cake and eat it—or rather keep its secrets and kill its alleged terrorist—too.

The lawsuit pits the American Civil Liberties Union, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and Anwar Al-Awlaki's father, Nasser, against the full force of the Obama administration. In the government's first response to the case, filed late last month, Justice Department lawyers deployed a number of tough legal arguments—including their trump card, the so-called "state secrets" privilege, which allows the government to argue that even hearing the case could pose a dire threat to national security.

By invoking state secrets, the Obama administration wasn't just arguing that it can kill its citizens. It was also saying that it doesn't have to explain the legal or factual basis for the killing.

Poll: Most Want Obama Fired In 2012

By Paul Bedard
Posted: October 27, 2010

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, rapped by the White House for pledging to make Barack Obama a one-term president, seems to have the support of a majority of Americans. A new poll provided to Whispers says that 56 percent of likely voters want the president fired.

According to pollster Doug Schoen, whose new poll shows vast support for the Tea Party movement among voters, the president is still liked by about half the nation. In fact, more like him personally than like his policies. Some 48 percent think he's a nice guy, while just 42 percent approve of his job performance.

But that personal favorability doesn't translate into re-election support when voters are asked if Obama deserves a second term. Says Schoen: "Despite voters feelings toward Obama personally, 56 percent say he does not deserve to be re-elected, while 38 percent say he does deserve to be re-elected president."

Worse, Schoen adds,
"43 percent say that Barack Obama has been a better president than George W. Bush, while
48 percent say Bush was a better president than Obama has been."

See editorial cartoons about President Obama.]

Other highlights in Schoen's poll presentation:

-- 54 percent say the Tea Party has been a good thing for American politics.

-- Voters favor Republicans over Democrats on a generic ballot 48 percent to 39 percent.

-- The Democratic attack on special interest money helping Republicans isn't having much of an impact.

Stahl: Why Are So Many Tea Partiers Women? I Find That So Intriguing

Posted on October 18, 2010

CBS' Leslie Stahl befuddles "Morning Joe" with her question.

"Who runs the Household economy?(women)" other guest

"Women as we all know are smarter than men," Mike Barnicle chimed in. "They have better instincts than men. And they know... the government or your household, you have a checkbook. You can't start writing check for things you can't pay for..." Barnicle added.

"The protests are channeled through organized politics. Conservatives don't take to the streets, they don't burn cities down. They don't riot."

This is the earliest announcement for a second term in recent memory. This is nothing more than an attempt to bolster odummy's disapproval poll numbers. He knows he's in trouble. He has land mines all around him and he knows he will step on at least one before the election...probably the high unemployment number and the deficit.

Everything with this clown is political and this announcement in no different.

McCain voted for TARP just like idiot Obama. If that dummy Voted NO on TARP, he would have shown some distinction from Wall Street controlled Obama and won the election. Dumbest move I've seen since Dukakis riding in the tank or Bush sr looking at his watch during the debate.

His popularity is just so-so right now, but with the strengthening economy and a respectful exit from the
wars in Libya and Afghanistan, he may be hard to beat.

Let's face it, as of this moment the Republicans have a bunch of clowns vying for the nomination.
Without a massive effort to suppress the vote everywhere what will they have going for themselves?

Funny ain't it, the Dems go everywhere trying to get the vote out and the Repubs go everywhere trying to suppress the vote.

The Obama "Quagmire" in Libya

There is a real danger that a stalemate will emerge in Libya in which Gadhafi and his henchmen remain in power around Tripoli and the rebels will hold the east, around Benghazi.

This would be a terrible outcome, for it would destroy Libya and embroil Western powers in a war-torn country for years.

American generals, together with their European counterparts, have already alluded to the risks inherent in the Libyan venture.

Libya's shifting sands have already begun fueling anti-Western sentiments in the region. Many in the Middle East who initially supported the West's humanitarian intervention in Libya are beginning to question the military escalation and the West's intentions.

Libyans, not outsiders, should be in charge of enacting change in their society.
