Python experts vexed by questions about New Brunswick tragedy
by Michael Friscolanti on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 6:29am - 48 Comments

Thicker than a man’s bicep and longer than two Shaquille O’Neals, an African rock python can survive on just two or three good meals a year. But when it does decide to eat—an antelope, perhaps, or maybe a monkey—the chosen meal has no chance. With fishhook fangs and a split-second strike, the snake snaps its prey, wraps itself into a tight coil, and never lets go.“It’s not suffocation,” says Johan Marais, a leading snake expert based in South Africa.“What they actually do is put pressure on the chest region and prevent the blood from going from one chamber of the heart to the other. They induce cardiac arrest.”

Then they swallow their supper whole.

Whoops, the autopsy results need to be altered ......

"Two New Brunswick boys killed by a snake died from asphyxiation, according to preliminary autopsy results released Wednesday."

The next Florida "Stand Your Ground" case?

Florida man allegedly kills wife, posts confession, photo of body on Facebook
By Dave Alsup and Ben Brumfield, CNN
updated 11:20 AM EDT, Fri August 9, 2013

........This was Medina's account to Miami Dade police:
He and his wife argued. He pulled a gun on her. She threatened to leave him. He put the gun away and followed her. She unloaded a volley of punches on him. He fetched the gun again. She pulled a knife. He wrestled it out of her hands. She punched him again.

Then he shot her "multiple times."

He felt certain she was dead. He did not call 911, the affidavit states. He changed clothes, and after seeing his family, went to a police station and began the process of confessing.

After he gave police his address, they drove to the scene, where they found the body.

Python pet shop tied to boys' deaths had 27 illegal species
Banned African rock python killed Noah and Connor Barthe, aged 4 and 6
CBC News Posted: Aug 9, 2013 9:19 AM AT Last Updated: Aug 9, 2013 1:32 PM AT

The African rock python that killed two boys in Campbellton, N.B., on Monday wasn't the only banned species found at the Reptile Ocean pet store, officials say.

Twenty-seven illegal animals, including some endangered ones, have been removed from the three-storey building, including the top-floor residence, said Bry Loyst from Peterborough's Indian River Reptile Zoo, who is assisting the provincial Department of Natural Resources and the RCMP.

But four large American alligators had to be euthanized on site because no zoos were able to accommodate them, officials said.

Two small crocodiles, called dwarf caimans, were removed.

Some of the other animals include: a variety of crocodile species, sulcata tortoises, iguanas and green anacondas, said Bruce Dougan, the manager of Moncton's Magnetic Hill Zoo, who is also assisting.

Hundreds of animals remain in the store, Loyst told CBC News.

Kyle O'Grady, assistant curator of Indian River Reptile Zoo, said he is "still trying to find the words."

Zoo staff have been called in to deal with similar situations, but "nothing of this magnitude," he said.

The situation is tragic, said O'Grady, adding his heart and thoughts go out to the family.

Crews started to remove some of the reptiles on Thursday night and the work continued on Friday with water being drained from the pond inside the building.

Deputy Mayor Ian Comeau said the team may need some city equipment, such as a loader and backhoe, to get some of the species out.

One of the crocodiles, for example, is about three metres long and weighs about 135 kilograms.

Firstly, the pic of the supposed Reptile Ocean is very obviously two stories - one, two - not three stories. If this "pet store" had hundreds of reptiles who was foregoing the upkeep cost to feed them? Small town New Brunswick isn't exactly the Mecca of reptile collectors with loose change and even if it were, how come nobody reported the illegal species?

Besides that, hundreds of reptiles confined in a relatively small building would stink something horrible and it's hard to believe neighbouring businesses would put up with the awful smell -- let alone humans would live in it and invite little boys over for sleepovers.

It's more likely this was someone's private collection -- this story has some major gaps.

Yellow Pages does not even list it as a pet store.

That was your breath blowing back in your face.
If you think a building were HUNDREDS of reptiles are caged doesn't smell atrocious, because those hundreds of reptiles pee and poop, considering you're a pig farming because you probably wouldn't notice a thing!

Nobody questions why a "pet store" in small town in Northern New Brunswick housed hundreds of reptiles including illegal breeds? Something is clearly "off" about this entire story. You must be the only person on planet earth who is stupid enough to believe it!

Does it ever occur to you that you focus on the wrong things in these cases? You become obsessed about peripheral details that don't matter. Of course the story is "off". Most likely we will learn in the future that the guy was a perv, invited little boys for "sleepovers", one or both threatened to tell on him, he killed them and made up the crazy snake story. That's the part that matters. What happened to the little boys, how did they end up dead, that's the question that is of importance.......not how many stories the building had or how many snakes were in the pet shop. I'm sure you're trying to figure out a way to connect this to something that it has no connection to, but the reality is that not all crimes are related to each other, and that NONE of them are related to your delusional thoughts.
Well imagine you writing that!

Using your rational, let's apply it to Casey Anthony who said her daughter was kidnapped by a psycho --- and forget other details that didn't add up including the nanny story and Universal Studios where she didn't work. It was that she said her daughter was kidnapped by a psycho -- that's the part that matters!

African rock python that killed N.B. brothers was delivered to reptile shop by Environment Canada | National Post

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Kevin BissettNatural Resources staff remove the carcasses of four large American alligators from Reptile Ocean in Campbellton, N.B., on Friday.

CAMPBELLTON, N.B.— Environment Canada says that 11 years ago, it delivered the python that killed two children this week to the New Brunswick pet store at the centre of the tragedy.

This happened even though the species was banned in the province without a special permit.

Environment Canada spokesman Mark Johnson says the federal department was enlisted to help transport the snake to Reptile Ocean in Campbellton after it was abandoned at the SPCA in Moncton, N.B.

Johnson says department records indicate Reptile Ocean was operating as a zoo when the snake arrived at the facility in August 2002.

New Brunswick’s Department of Natural Resources says only accredited zoos can apply for a permit to own a banned species, including the African rock python in question.

Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums says it is the only recognized national body to accredit zoos in the country and it has no record of Reptile Ocean ever applying for accreditation.

Anne Bull, a spokeswoman for the Natural Resources Department, won’t say whether Reptile Ocean was issued a permit for the python.

But she has said the department was unaware the 45-kilogram snake even existed until four-year-old Noah Barthe and his six-year-old brother Connor were asphyxiated this week by the reptile.

Rambler will not accept this story until she has learned the weight, length, & width of the rodent, how many stories the Popeye's store had, the age of the unfortunate diner, & the color of his shoes.

Then it will all make sense to her.

Popeye's is disgusting food. Fattening too. They had some kind of shrimp and that cured me years ago.
