Well they may have to follow the new rules if advised to do so by a black officer.

Yes but they are black and the last thing we need is to form anger in the ranks.

The non-conforming hairstyles are styles that cause vermin infestation in group conditions. The inclination in all races using these hair styles is to not have needed personal hygiene, leaving their hair in various bunched conditions for extended periods of time, which invites infestations of lice, etc. It may be true Blacks using these hair styles are more inclined to leave their hair in these styles for longer periods than others. It is more difficult for Blacks to disassemble and replace these hair styles because of the nature of their hair. Recognizing the special natures of some Black attributes doesn't make health regulations discriminatory, even if that was being done, which it is not.

Why do these people always want to change the rule?. The rules are good enough for white women, but black women are different. Really, then let them start their own Army, with their own rules.

You have to conform to the military. Not the other way around. Get over it, silly girls. You want to be equal, right? Stop complaining about not having special hairstyles. Other people don't get to have special hairstyles. You are not special just because you are (insert whatever you are).

The military has regulations? When did that start? Soldiers need to start a union.

"These people" just what does that mean? You sound racist.

Um-yes black women are different from white women.

And no I don't think the rules should be changed or modified for their hair. Their biggest problems lie ahead in inequality (simply because they are women) rape, and disrespect. But, if I follow your logic "these people" should be used to it?

What a shocker that all the conservatives come out with their racist nonsense right away. Black women have different hair then white women, and the Army obviously overlooked that in their new regulations.

That said, this is the military's own screw up when they allowed ALL women to have different grooming standards than men to start with. Grooming standards & uniform regulations are established primarily for safety of the troops & uniformity. Long hair is a safety hazard, beards interfere with the proper fit of gas masks, religious head wraps interfere with proper fit of helmets/headgear, jewelry & piercings & even long fingernails can be a hazard in a combat setting.

Bottom line is ALL servicemembers- male, female, black, white, christian, jew, muslim, athiest, gay, straight, etc, etc, etc, should be required to conform to the same grooming & uniform standards.

If there is a reasonable justification for men to have short hair- over the ears & off the neck- and no earrings and short fingernails & no makeup, then the same standard should be applied to women.

And yes, I'm a 20+ year veteran who fully supports women in the military and even in combat.

If a black woman wears a weave or straightens her hair, fine.. But if she wears her natural hair that's banned? Not racist at all right...yea ok. If concessions are made for woman and their hair than black hairstyles should be included, simple enough.

Now you're making sense. It's the same for military Black men. If a Black man wears a natural hair style, it could be against the silly military regulations. While we're at it, olive drab green uniforms - really? Might be fine for pale white guys, but Blacks should be able to select more traditional and individual colors for their uniforms.

Yes, these people. These people who believe they don't have to follow the rules on any level. Yes they come in all colors, but this particular article is about the black ones. You call every little item about blacks, even if white people have to do whatever as well, into racism please do. I would rather be a racist then a Democrat
