From the article: "Some House Republicans have since credited the lack of an unemployment extension with helping to bring down the unemployment rate."

So, some people actually got off their butts and found employment after the dole was cut off.

Interesting .....

Damned Democrats and Øbama were told that was going on. When beggars can afford to be choosers for two-plus years, why would they bother applying for and taking jobs that would net them little more than the taxpayers were handing out every month.

Of course it's "dead," reTHUGlicans are not going to support working people. They're too busy enriching themselves, their Wall St. masters, and the upper crust to bother with the working...or OUT of work....poor.

Damn their filthy GOP hides.

Unfortunately, that is not what happened.
When people stop receiving unemployment benefits, they are no longer considered among the unemployed. Hence, the unemployment rate goes down.

How long do these people think they can sit home, and draw unemployment? It would be different if there was some control, some way to check, and see if they are even looking for work, but just to hand them a check for doing nothing is insane. They are not starving now even after the checks stopped. They are doing side jobs. They have an underground economy that excludes paying taxes.

if you haven't found a job after 99 weeks of unemployment then it's time for you to get in line behind the 11 million illegals for your obamafome, ebt card and food stamps. better hurry, obama is making the line longer daily.

"These" people are your fellow Americans! And unemployment is NOT welfare! It is paid for by the employer - which in fact - WE WORKED FOR! There is a cut off, and there are conditions to be met if you are on unemployment. I.E. job training, meetings, submitting all jobs applied for, maintaining a weekly minimum., etc.
So to say handing them a check for doing nothing is an absolute slap in the face to those people, your fellow Americans, who are doing everything they can to survive. It makes me sad that there is no compassion left in this world, only greed and anger.
TRUE DEFINITION of UNEMPLOYMENT: Funds paid by the state to unemployed workers who have lost their jobs due to layoffs or retrenchment. Unemployment compensation is meant to provide a source of income for jobless workers until they can find employment. In order to be eligible for it, certain criteria must be satisfied by an unemployed worker, such as having worked for a minimum stipulated period and actively looking for employment. Unemployment compensation provides partial income replacement only for a defined length of time or until the worker finds employment, whichever comes first.

Unemployment extension was put off so ALL 3 branches of Government could enjoy spring break.

Now since nothing got done ALL 3 branches of Government needs to shut down for summer vacation.

When they return in September they'll have to focus on the mid-term elections and that will take them into the holiday break.

Holy crap,they've out-Frenched the French.

The employer might have paid enough for these people to get 30-40 weeks of unemployment. They did not pay nearly what the unemployed received for doing nothing. The free ride has to come to a stop. It is proven that if you cut off the checks they will get jobs. They will not even look as long as the checks are delivered to their house. They are not the most ambitious people in America.

Unemployment and Social Security sure is Welfare and been that way since 1937 when the SCOTUS issued their ruling in Helvering v. Davis which is why Individuals have no rights to Social Security.

Is There a Right to Social Security?

By Michael D. Tanner

November 25, 1998

You worked hard your whole life and paid thousands of dollars in Social Security taxes. Now it’s time to retire. You’re legally entitled to Social Security benefits, right? Wrong. There is no legal right to Social Security, and that is one of the considerations that may decide the coming debate over Social Security reform.

Many people believe that Social Security is an “earned right.” That is, they think that because they have paid Social Security taxes, they are entitled to receive Social Security benefits. The government encourages that belief by referring to Social Security taxes as “contributions,” as in the Federal Insurance Contribution Act. However, in the 1960 case of Fleming v. Nestor, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that workers have no legally binding contractual rights to their Social Security benefits, and that those benefits can be cut or even eliminated at any time.

If we took the money we give to Social Security, and invested it ourselves, we would have a much greater return on our money. We were not given a choice the Government picks our pockets, and truthfully, we won't likely see a penny of it.

Face it, Republicans do not care about working people. It is that simple. The old saying is true; "The only people that vote Republican are either rich or stupid!"

Republicans expect able bodied people to work, and stop acting like they are entitled to sit on their lazy behinds forever. Imagine that. What a concept. If you cannot find some kind of work in 20 weeks you are not looking. And if you are not looking I don't care how you exist.

My neighbor looked all over for someone who would do her lawn, nothing fancy, just mow it, and trim a little. Finally she hired some older retired man who charged $40, and he does the snow removal in the winter. He has 15 people he works for. Some he charges $50, some $35, $40. He makes over $450 a week. Get off the sofa boys. there is work to be done.

Actually the one I heard was: if you are under 30 and don't vote Democrat you don't have a heart; If you are over 30 and don't vote republican you don't have a brain.

Guess it takes that long for the effects of liberal brainwashing from school to wear off or something. The ones that don't catch a clue are the ones with no retirement savings and sit around bitchin all the time with their hands out still voting democrat to get more freebies (scraps).

Interesting .....
The only State to qualify for extensions are those with rates in excess of the nation average. Overwhelmingly those are red GOP supporting States.
