My gawd, you can't be serious.
ACCIDENTS happen around pools.
Guns are deliberately used to kill people including children.
The Constitutional right to "keep and bear arms" was provided for at a time in our history when we were still a "wild frontier" and fighting and killing to survive, not for the sole purpose of killing innocent people in malls and other public places.
Gun control laws are too lax and have been for far too long. No one will suffer any loss of freedom just because of stricter gun control laws. It's selfish to cling to this antiquated right just to satisfy some caveman need to feel powerful.
It seems we still live in the "wild frontier". Perhaps the best way to protect our children in schools is to have all the teachers trained and licensed for concelled weapons. I thought it would be better to do this with the teachers rather then the children.

<quoted text>Are you saying that this gun culture is not being romanticized in videos, video games, music and on tv? It's everywhere. There is a strong gun culture on both sides...
Exactly! The hate of so many ignorant people WHO hate the guns BUT will glorify Hollywood and all those type shows, video games, music etc.- is mind blowing!
Guns do not kill it IS the kill mentality behind the mind who is bent on getting attention one way OR another! They sure get it.
Too bad SOMEONE was not paying attention! In every incident there were telling signs!
So sad that so many babies paid the price for the non attention that some let slip by in the last few days!... AND in all other shootings that have bloodied our history as it ever unfolds. People need to stop worrying about MAKING someone mad! Pay attention, get on a person's radar...turn them in OR get them help from somewhere! Do not, "sweep things under the rug"
so to speak -as so many do!
What a shame! May God and yes God....wrap His loving arms around all those parents who lost their little ones!
AND may we all teach the little ones how they should go from the time they speak that first word. Remember they LIVE what they learn at home! They then grow up OR some get to!

What are you saying? You want us to handle it like you want us to handle illegal aliens in this country? Do you want us to just give up, not enforce our laws and offer amnesty for the murders?

If so, don't be surprised to for the same people opposing you on that too.

It's hard to explain but they revel in anything military, anything that has to do with survivalists.
There is a strong "gun culture" deep within the Republican Right, the antisocial militia types, etc.
So your family is loony. Whoda figured? Duuuh!

Eagle cries crocodile tears. That lowlife troll instigates heated arguments all the time. I think he does it so he can tattle tale on people who disagree with his worldview in hopes that the Mods will talk to him.

I don't know about the mods who work for topix but in my workplace, I get annoyed at the cheese eaters running up to me all the time trying to get someone else into trouble. I always procrastinate responding until I have a chance to see if the problem is a bully or if the cheese eater is just asking for it. 99.999% of the time it's the latter.

interesting thought, but tell me what do you think the chances are that a mother would shoot her own child. the shooter went after his mother, he already decided to kill her. do you honestly think in the few moments she had before being gunned down she would have had time to DECIDE to shoot her own son, let alone draw her weapon...assuming she was wearing it.

geesh, do you idiots even think about what you are saying before uttering your nonsense

I'm sure more information will surface. What will it all mean to those who cannot bring their loved ones back.
Oh I'm sure there was no connection at all. He likely just randomly picked a school to do this in and had no idea his mother worked there. <this is sarcasm stupid>

A guard doesn't do any good when the shooter entering the building in related to a teacher who works there. The guard would just greet him by name and let him in. Even if the principal of the school was aware of personal problems between a teacher and her child, they wouldn't tell the security guard about it. In fact, they wouldn't tell anyone about it. Not even the authorities. School administrators don't want their dirty laundry hanging out for all to see. They prefer to allow problems to swell until the bubble pops before they address the underlying issues that leads to tragedies.

Hmmm, tell me do ypu consider George W Bush a conservative, hoe about Ron Reagan? you do realize both had an amnesty plan for illegal immigrants. Reagan gave amnesty to millions of illegal amnesty.

funny, but the only Presidents to offer amnesty to illegal immigrants have been conservatives, including your god Ronnie

<quoted text>Where did I indicate I was shocked? I just think it's important to see the impact of thirty years of poor policy that has led to greed and disrespect for workers and been responsible for creating the greatest polarity in wealth and income inequality in history since The Great Depression. Globalists moved to a global economic model with almost no consideration of the impact on American workers and American society.
I'm not shocked. I'm disturbed. We should all be disturbed that predator capitalism has superseded free market capitalism as the model under which we all become victims save for a small elite number of participants.
You indicated YOUR shock by posting such! Are you not DISTURBED enough to realize the truth. So many fortune 500 companies are over regulated....you know gov. regulations, as for OBAMACARE etc.-how it minds the over all outcome of the company and their bottom line to stay in business?

IBM has NO record of -30 yrs. of poor policy, greed nor disrespect! What a spin as for YOUR reason for IBM changing that policy. KNOW the truth.

PUT the blame as for IBM and other companies policies and those changes where the blame should be! It is NOT your notion as for the reason!

Let's not forget it was the liberals who decided that the mentally ill have "rights", including the right to refuse treatment. They emptied our mental institutions, with thousands of them winding up as mumble-people living on the street.
Letting the insane refuse treatment and demanding to be set "free" makes about as much sense as allowing a confused brain cancer patient leave the hospital simply because he says he wants to. As with children, they lack the capability to make rational, informed decisions.
As to all the guns out there, that's a different question. It seems that in the short-term we might be left with arming citizens for our own defense. Of course, nuts can also get bomb-making instructions off the internet.
actually it was Reagan who let the loonies out

Hello WA.

I have such mixed feelings right now. I've thought about what you're saying too. Something has to change though, and I really don't know the solution, but this is happening far too often. I feel sick about this tragedy and can't even imagine what the parents are feeling.

<quoted text>This is why I said don't come back and say "What about this, that or the other." The article was not "What Do You Want?". It had to do with how we were losing our competitiveness globally that we had always previously had because we had 1)a high birth rate, and 2)no shortage of people wanting to immigrate. The article addressed the reality that the Great Recession had impacted birth rate, and immigrants were no longer lined up in long queues to get here.
Now, IF this article addressed the reality (rather than just an intellectual exercise of the author), I indicated I could understand why it was that we have the policies we currently do: failure to enforce immigration laws and subsidy and encouragement for people to have babies (even if they can't afford to have them).
You want to turn this into an indictment of me when it has nothing to do with what I, personally, think about anything. It was much more asking Americans to see if the policies of government don't make more sense in light of the population decline problem. That's all this was about, Eagle. Now, I'm done discussing it with you, because clearly you don't like the message, and I am simply the messenger bringing the view of an economist for consideration.
If you don't know why government doesn't enforce immigration law, can't understand why we keep paying young women to have babies they can't afford, if you don't understand why some want to overturn Roe vs. Wade and force women to have babies they don't want, etc.., maybe you'd have more answers to the questions simply by reading the article. Take it or leave it.
So you want to end all unions and enter a cheap illegal labor force.. Got it.. Rest your brothers soul..

Why is she shocked? Because she's an IDIOT! Like most liberals, she thinks wealth is just there and that our ONLY problem is getting it distributed "fairly". She has the mind of a child made worse by years of ridiculously ignorant liberal education.
That's why our country is over $16 trillion in debt, yet we elected someone who plans to dig the hole even deeper. He's managed to fool a bunch of sheep like NTR that a secret society of blue meanies have a gazillion tons of "free sh*t" stashed away and if we can just get hold of it, our problems are over.
In the meanwhile, we just put the tab on the National Debit Card. Why? Because it has NO credit limit and there's NO possibility we'll go bankrupt...EVER! Sure. I believe that. Don't you? And the Victoria's Secret supermodels are going to make mad passionate love to me one day. All of them....at the same time.
We are living in a fool's paradise and Obama is the Fool-in-Chief.
... "kinda" LIKE what YOU just said! Exactly...thank you! STOP spending money we do NOT have! ENOUGH!

Someone is robbing others to pay for those freebies........guess someone things that will never stop! SOMEONE is going to be sadly mistaken soon!

Daily Horoscope for May 20

Cancer

Your mind is working well, so give it plenty of exercise. You could get involved in an intellectual discussion that forces you to think things through for yourself, or you might have to do some serious thinking about a forthcoming travel plan. If you're often wary of saying what you think you'll feel much braver about speaking up today, which is good news if you want to fight your corner or express your point of view.
